    Thermal Analysis: Beer Fridge

I knew someone would get around to this My company develops this software.

Doing a Full Boil for the Very First Time

Can you give me ballpark savings? (i.e. a typical AG batch costs xx% of the equivalent extract batch).

I guess I'll start doing full boils

Everyone: I appreciate the tips, help, and advice. That's why I'm here asking questions and getting information. I am considering your advice. I'm definitely not ignoring it like you're inferring above. I already stated in a previous message that I don't have room for a dedicated...

I guess I'll start doing full boils

OK so you raise a good question. She asked me what I wanted and I told her to get the 15 because I was trying to plan for a future of full boil 5 gallon batches AND probably BIAB 5 gallon batches. I was thinking in a 15 gal kettle I could do all of these brewing approaches: 5/10 gal extract...

Doing a Full Boil for the Very First Time

+1 On the first time full boil. I have a couple AHS kits on the way and can't wait to try it. Let me know how it goes for you.

I guess I'll start doing full boils

I agree there are several things I can do cheaply or for free (and incrementally) to improve my finished product. Since I'm still in the extract realm I want to try full boils and I'll probably start making yeast starters. I think a fermentation chamber is out of the cards since I just got a...

I guess I'll start doing full boils

That's funny. I considered that when I posted my question. Having not tried AG yet, to me the less equipment I have to use the better. However, I'm not ruling out using an MLT. Would it be that much more difficult than using the BIAB method?

I guess I'll start doing full boils

Yes, I was talking about the Brew In A Bag (BIAB) method. I am interested in trying all grain at some point (not quite yet), but I don't want to put any more money into my setup (at least for now). I have another question and I hope it's not stupid. My wife got me the 10 gal Blichmann...

    Double an extract based recipe

I posted in another thread about receiving a 10 gallon Blichmann brew pot. I'm still extract brewing with plans on going AG (BIAB) in the future. With this new pot I plan on full boils, but wondered if I could do a two batch partial boil to make 10 gallons of one recipe. Is this possible and...

I guess I'll start doing full boils

For now I think I'll start with full boil - extract/specialty grains, but BIAB looks like a direction I might go in. It looks kind of intimidating though. I hear people talk about water chemistry, grain bill size, conversion efficiency, calculating a "strike" temperature, AG boil size...

    Split seam on keg

Thanks everyone for the tips. I appreciate it. I think I'll do a little more looking at the propblem keg to see if I can find the source of the leak and try to repair it.

I guess I'll start doing full boils

Thanks for the info on the getting the barb. I'll make sure and order one. I'm also planning on getting the 24" leg extensions. Does anyone know if they are sold as a set of 4 or separately? It seems like they should come as a set but you never know.

I guess I'll start doing full boils

Not going AG quite yet. I don't have any of that equipment and really don't have the space. Thanks for the tips and advice though. I really appreciate it.

I guess I'll start doing full boils

I got some new equipment for my birthday and can't wait to use it. My wife bought me a Blichmann floor burner with a 10 gal Blichmann kettle on back order. I'm and extract/grains brewer used to doing partial boils. I'm pretty excited to use the new equipment and start on full boils. Now I...

    Split seam on keg

I have a 5 gallon corny keg that refuses to seal. After a bit of checking things out I discovered gas coming from the top seam (right at the line between the black rubberized handle and the beginning of the metal body). Is there any way to repair something like this at a reasonable price? Or...

    Hop bags in the way

I brewed up an amber ale last night and things went pretty smoothly. There was one phase of the boil that was a bit of a pain though. I started using hop bags to make racking to my carboy/cleanup a bit easier. I noticed that when I went to do my late extract addition (10 min. before the...

For all you Pale Ale and IPA brewers - dry hopping?

I just finished dry hopping an IPA for 2 weeks (can't remember the variety off the top off my head). I kegged on Saturday and sampled it yesterday and was a bit disappointed in the aroma and it didn't seem to contribute much to the flavor. Maybe I'll try it again once it's more carbonated...

    A little nervous

Well I racked into a keg on Saturday. Just before I started to siphon I pulled a sample. It wasn't half bad. For an IPA it was a bit maltier than I would have expected but over all not bad. I was a little disappointed that there wasn't more hop aroma after dry hopping for two and a half...
