Big fan of Summit, and have never had the onion characteristic that some (lots) do. I usually use them as late addition as well, so maybe there is something to that. I generally get more of a grapefruit characteristic than tangerine.

I'm just going to ask the obvious here, but was your recipe formulated for 6 gallons, or 5? That extra gallon if your calcs were based on 5 gallons would account for a large portion of your difference. Otherwise i would tend to agree w/the crush being your culprit. I gained almost 20%...

Was just going to post the same thing. We have one and LOVE it! As far as losing carbonation, we treat them like growlers, and fill them with the intention of using them within a few days. I suspect they would last much longer though.

Clean blow-off tubing? I just toss it. Typically the tubing that i use for blow off has been used at least once for racking. IMO tubing is way too cheap and way to much of a PIA to clean to risk infecting a batch.
