    Ohio MiniBrew 8 gallon conical

I picked up this Mini Brew conical fermentor with a slug of other home brewing equipment recently. Very clean. Shipping would probably be a pain/expensive. I work in Dayton and Columbus regularly, could meet somewhere. $125

    WLP005 vs WLP013

According to the White Labs website, the only difference between these two strains is 005 is highly flocculant where 013 is medium. What does that translate to in the end product? I am thinking about use in an oatmeal stout and a chocolate stout. I used the 005 in this oatmeal stout recipe with...

    smoked a love controller?

I switched the input an output when I wired it in a hurry last night trying to get the spare fridge going for a lager. When I plugged it in the breaker blew. Now it is wired right (I think) and it will light up and let me change all the settings, but it won't power the output. Did I smoke it? Is...

How to calculate efficiency on first AG batch?

I use Brewtarget software, but I'm still learning it. How do I figure the efficiency on this first batch? 6 lb German Pilsner Malt 4 lb Red Wheat 60 minute mash at ~149 F Post boil the SG was 1.044 at 5 gallons. I forgot to get a preboil SG.

What temp is normal racking tubing rated for?

Can I use normal racking tubing in a mash tun to connect the manifold to the valve barb? I don't have the right size silicone and I want to brew tomorrow.

Frigedaire sanke to four cornies question.

I have an older version of this, does anyone know if there are coolent lines in the top? Or anything else that would prevent me from drilling a second hole in the top? i am loosely planning a conversion to four taps mounted on a wood insulated box in place of the tower. To get four beer lines...

Splitting and stepping up a starter

I got some WLP300 Hefe yeast from the LHBS today that is super old. It was the only hefe yeast he had... I don't want to wait till I can get an order from somewhere else... yada, yada... And he gave to me for like three bucks... I have (2) 5 gallon batches that I want to use this yeast for...

    Which stone for O2?

I scored an O2 kit from my uncle who is getting out of brewing. While reading lots of threads about how fast and long to run the O2, I have a couple questions for those of you who use pure O2. 1) Is the regular little stone ok or should I do something like this? I have the little stone...

    Cost/ amount of gas?

I'm courious. As I'm looking through all these wicked awesome brew rigs I wonder how much gas they use. I know a lot are hard plumbed to the house NG or LP, but some use the little 20 pound LP tanks. On an average 3 vessel system, how much gas does it take to make one ten gallon batch? I'm...

    Alternative to the auto siphon?

Mine's cracked at the bottom. What the hell? I've used in on maybe 8 batches. Is any alternative to this method? I use buckets to ferment, carboys to secondary/ age if needed, and kegs. What does everyone else use?

    Converted Pin Lock kegs

    (2) Pin lock kegs converted to ball lock connectors. I bought them from a guy off craigslist because he didn't say they were converted pin locks and I already made the trip. Plus he had some other stuff I wanted. My uncle just gave me four legit ball locks to match the others I already had...

    First with the keggle.

So I'm stepping into AG one step at a time. I have done a bunch of different stove top sized boils. This one was the first one in the keggle. Things I learned... Boil overs can still happen in a keggle. Immersion chillers are freaking awesome. The boil off rate was less than I expected. And...

    Nottingham at 72*

Is that toooooo hot? I just did a 10 gallon batch of an apple graff/cider/beer (it has malt and hops so technically it is a beer I think). I split the batch in half and tossed Red Star Champagne yeast in one bucket and Notty in the other. Turns out my basement isn't a cool 65* like I thought...

    Question about a copper manifold

What is the best way to drill or cut a copper manifold for an MLT? I think holes small enough would be annoying to drill, but how many effin slots would I have to cut for that to work? A million? I'm planning on using 1/2 copper and then slot the bottom half or third I guess. Thoughts?

    Force carbing at room temp?

According to TastyBrew, I can get 3.0 volumes at 30 psi at 60 degrees. I'm thinking about how to have kegged/carbed beer ready to go whenever I have an empty spot. I know CO2 dissolves better at colder temps, but is there any problems with doing the set it and forget it at these higher temps...

    Altering AHS Oatmeal Stout

I have an AHS Oatmeal Stout going now. It was in primary for 7 weeks and now in bottles for almost 4 weeks. It's pretty good, but I want it a dab sweeter with a little less bite. I don't want to really get into recipe formulation just yet, so I want to use a recipe I've done that's good and...

BrewTarget / new at all grain questions

So far the most complicated I have done is PM kits from AHB, so I am learning brewing software and the AG process at the same time. Please forgive base questions. When adding equipment, what is the mash tun volume, mass, and specific heat? I will be using a 15g extreme cooler. (I know it is...

Storing beer lines. Need better pipeline.

I blew both my first and second keg Thursday night. I know, sad day. Anyway, with two kegs on tap I lost motivation to make more beer for the kegs when they blow and now it's going to be three to four weeks before the next batch is ready for kegging. (Maybe two weeks if I try the simple hefe...

    Trub with washed yeast.

I have a couple mason jars of washed yeast. In one of them I have about a 1/4 inch of trub under the half inch of yeast. I guess 20 minutes isn't enough time for the trub to settle out before going to the final container, noted. Anyway, is that going to hurt a starter if I do the chill...

    Sparge - No sparge?

I have a 15.5 gallon extreme cooler that I am going to decommission because it is just too darn big for the bed of my truck and the hinges broke last fall making the lid prone to coming off going down the road. I also have some copper scrap laying around from a recent bathroom remodel. I...
