American Pale Ale Kona, Fire Rock Pale Ale (AG Clone)

Sounds good. I use mrmalty when making starters but I just have never used a slurry before. Thanks for the advice. I will be brewing this up on the weekend so I will post results when it is finished.

American Pale Ale Kona, Fire Rock Pale Ale (AG Clone)

I have a honey kolsch fermenting now (10 gallons) so I think I will make this and use the slurry from that. Is there anything special I need to do with the slurry or do I just put the wort on top of it and oxygenate as usual? Should I wash the slurry or will it be ok just pitching?

    Oatmeal Stout Yooper's Oatmeal Stout

Thanks Yooper for the feedback. I think I will add some good coffee beans and let it set in the secondary for a day or two. A new first for me.

    Oatmeal Stout Yooper's Oatmeal Stout

Just brewed this up and halfway into the boil I looked at the reciept and noticed that there was no black barley on it. I thought this was a little lighter than it should have been. What affects is this going to have and what can I do at this point (now fermenting). What does the black barley...

American Pale Ale Lake Walk Pale Ale

Just brewed up 10 gals of this. I used whole hops, treated ro water, and I roasted 4 lbs of two row per dude's method. I used washed pac-man for 5 gals and a fresh vile of wlp001 for the other five gals with 1 liter starters for each. Each one is chugging away at 64 degrees and the smell is...

    Official Broken Hydrometer Count

    600. I have been brewing for about two years without a broken hydrometer. I have now broken one the last two batches I have made.

American IPA Bell's Two Hearted Ale Clone (close as they come)

Just tapped a keg of this I brewed about 4 weeks ago. Made some mistakes like missing my strike temp by 2 degrees (148). I did not boil off as much as I anticipated so my o.g. was 1.053 but nothing too serious. Everyting else went well i think. I used a 2 litre starter with pac-man yeast and...

American Pale Ale Da Yooper's House Pale Ale

I am going to use this recipe as my first try at a 10 gallon batch. I think I will use centennial as the first and second bittering additions and cascade as the last two additions plus dry hopping. The ibu's will only be at 34 so I hope it is enough. I am not a real hop-head though I do like...

+1. This is my first BIAB effort and it turned out great.

Cream Ale Cream of Three Crops (Cream Ale)

I just put 5 gallons of this in bottles. OG was a little high - 1.052 and the FG finished at 1.010. I did add some extra grain when mashing but now I am getting better efficiency with my BIAB set up. I upped the hops just a little and the FG sample tasted great. This should be a great drinking...

Pseudo BIAB: Mash in a Bag (MIAB)?

Nice to hear that other people use coolers with biab. I do it to help me control my temps better. It has worked good so far and I am getting better results with each brew.

Seven days in a bottle is still a little young. Give a couple of more weeks.

    2nd Brew Bad Luck...maybe

Same thing happened to me on my first batch only I also dumped the air lock in also. Turned out fine. Seems like I learn something on every brew that I could have done better. This won't be the first mis-hap as I have had many with no bad effects. The beer is getting better and better as I get...

first biab and I dont know wtf I am doing

I agree, there is more than one way to skin a cat. I do what works best for me in my limited experience. I'm sure my technique will evolve as I do more and more all grain brewing.

first biab and I dont know wtf I am doing

I don't know what you'd call what I did then. I found it easier to keep my temps steady by using a 5 gallon cooler with a bag holding the grains. I used an auto siphon to drain the wort and sparged. I guess it is a combination of biab and regular mashing.
