    Back again (again)

Been five years. I am now all grain brewing :-) Bought a 50L Guten on Friday and have already put two brews through it. Loving it! Was using pots and a gas burner, but this is much easier. Brewed a Choc Stout (was meant to be 10%, but somehow ended up at 15% OG - prob to do with only...

Taking the plunge... From kits to all grain...

I have given myself 12 months to move to all grain. Partial mash on the way of course. Went looking for a 25l pot with a heavy base today. $180 (au) so that will have to wait until payday. Walked into the camping store and came out with this burner. 36000btu so should warm things up...

    Back after a break!

I am back in the saddle again, so to speak. Been a while since I last brewed. I think about 5 years. I stopped because I ran out of time (work / kids), but now the kids have grown up a little (now 9 and 6) it would appear that I have enough time to restart. I have a brewing / running mate...

Just found a case of Apfelwein

About 40 bottle (345ml) just sitting on a shelf in my cellar that I don't look at much. I thought it was just empty bottles waiting to be filled. :rockin: Not sure how old they are but I suspect around 2 years. nice and fizzy, not sweet and def got a little bit of a kick! Now, I know I...

    Chickens in back garden!

Heeeeeeeeeellllllllooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, Some of you might remember me. Others will not. I have been too busy to post on here - and don't even mention about being too busy to brew. Costing me a fortune at the bottle shop! Seems like the kids are getting a bit older and the house is...

    The great Christmas build off

I have just finished building a trampoline with enclosure in the wind and dark in the back garden. What have you built under cover of darkness on Christmas eve?

Lets see your Complete Joy of HB pics

After a *cough* few HBs last night I was reading Charlies Papazian and started to picture all the other prints of this great book out there. In sheds, in garages, on the shelves, in cockpits etx. Lets reunite them in this thread! (had he been drinking- well he had had a few...)

    I'm in! Bought grinder

:ban: Well cover me in flour and bake me for forty minutes if they didn't have a grinder up at the LHBS when I strolled up there at lunchtime! Payday was today and I walked back to work with a heavy than normal load. Thanks Amanda (Who I assume reads this forum!). Now for this obsession to...

    Botched Lagers bottled :)

Took the hit last night and bottled my two batches of lager. First one is 9.8% and the second 7.1%. :drunk: For those that did not read my other post (wherever it went!) these two lagers are a bit of a forkup. I used two MSB kits (each kit makes 11.5 litres) and forgot that no extra DME is...

Failing to intentionally ruin a beer?

Here is a question : Has anybody tried to ruin a beer intentionaly and failed? There is a lot of talk everyday about how people think that they have ruined their beer and a lot of people tell them not to worry. Can it be shown how difficult it is to ruin a beer by sharing tales of failure to...

The return of McHaggis (Aka Dibby33 Aka The ArchBishop of Haggisburry)

Two months later and I am back again. Same old story - kids (Jess turned 4 on Tuesday and Melanie is 1 today), house, wife, work... Beerwise I have got back on the horse at a gallop. Currently have 60 litres of lager bubbling away - one should be 7% and one 5%. Just bottled a 30 litre...

Lets talk : Office Christmas Parties...

We all have them. In my mind they are a necessary evil. Where else can you do these things. Things you would not consider doing in a million years and then after a few cleansing ales you turn, not for the best in most cases either I hasten to add. My admissions : 1. Throwing up in a toilet...

Finally it is nearly time to go to the pub. I have been hanging out for three days and it is nearly 4pm on Friday down here. 19 minutes and counting...

    Just got pantsed

Just nipped over to the pub and had two games of pool with a workmate. I won the first game and then lost the second in spectactular fashion, did not pot one single ball. As tradition dictates I dropped my trousers and I walked slowly around the table. Good job it was not busy! Anybody else...

    I'm back!

After being on holidays for 5 weeks I am back :) Since being away I have finally got around to bottling my chocolate coffee porter and my wheat beer. The wheat beer I think has a problem. ...not helped by not putting enough priming sugar in it, but it tastes like cr@p. I suspect that this...

off on holidays for one month

I am off on holidays for one month and don't have broadband at home so will not be posting much. Rest assured I shall be drinking and brewing. My parents are flying in on Sunday from Scotland and I am going to get my dad to help build some brewing equipment so that I can start messing with...

    Broke the barrel?

I have been very slack. Very. Not proud of it! One month ago I racked my chocolate porter into secondary. Did not clean out primary barrel (Plastic). Three inches of gunk. Opened the lid yesterday and got a face full of vinegar fumes. ...should I throw out the barrel?
