    Trub/Hop Filter from BrewersHardware

Today I put an 8 oz brew through this filter. It was 50/50 whole leaf and pellet hops. I have a 40 plate chiller with 1/2 '' through put. It took about 30 minutes to chill the entire ten gallon batch. The filter became partially obstructed by hops as expected. Before runoff I ran a quick...

    Trub/Hop Filter from BrewersHardware

Dgonza9, the answer is yes. Most of us use this without any other solutions for containing the hops. The thing you will need to consider is the fact that most of us, I'm thinking, use this filter in conjunction with side port drains. I personally know, that if I were to drain everything...

    Trub/Hop Filter from BrewersHardware

Well today I put this filter to the test. I brewed a Double Cascadian Dark Ale with 8 oz's of pellet hops and at least one more ounce of leaf hops. If you've read through my other posts thus far, I have yet to have a real issue with the filter (kinked hoses are another story). This brew...

I would say it sounds like you've got all of your affairs in order. I use a similar set of triclamp hose barbs with hose clamps. What is the vertical rise between your pump and your kettle valve? Personally I have about two feet of rise between the two and gravity seems to help things along.

Maybe next time, if there is a next time, you brew with leaf hops leave them in the kettle after transfer then fill the kettle with water and try to determine if it is the pick up tube or the filter. My bet is the pick up tube is getting clogged. I have no pick up inside the kettle just the...

    Trub/Hop Filter from BrewersHardware

I agree, I hate the extra time my wort sat at a high temp and that it was such a simple fix, but I also love that I didn't end up going the difficult route only to find out that it was something so simple!

    Trub/Hop Filter from BrewersHardware

I have now used this filter several times in the same configuration BK>Filter>Pump>CFC>FV. This past Saturday was the first time I have used it with whole hops, and didn't coduct a whirlpool/rest. When I began my runoff everything was going great, and then the cooled wort stopped moving. I...

    Trub/Hop Filter from BrewersHardware

I think without a pump you would absolutely be fine on brews with only a few ounces of hops. Some of the higher hop usage styles may begin to present issues. I use mine after the BK but before my pump. I believe that once you get the flow going it begins to create a siphon which is further...

Personally I mount mine at a 45 degree angle to the floor. I think if you were to mount it completely horizontal you would have issues purging the oxygen on the inside and this may cause flow issues. The only reason I mount mine angled in such a way is to have less of a turbulent initial flow...

    Trub/Hop Filter from BrewersHardware

I brewed this past saturday using my filter again. Same set up BK>Filter>Pump>Plate Chiller. When running the ball valve all the way open on the output side of the pump I can't get my wort down to 70 so I have to close it quite a bit. When running it all the way open I would pull air bubbles...

    Trub/Hop Filter from BrewersHardware

Well, I finally got around to kegging the first two ten gallon batches I produced using this in line trub filter. I am extremely impressed with the outcome of both. To set the scene, I brew 10 gallon AG batches. I have no dip tube, hop blocker, or any fitting on the inside of my kettle just a...

    Trub/Hop Filter from BrewersHardware

What kind of recipe did you do for the APA? It looks like you must have gone with a ton of low alpha acid hops, and if I remember correctly, did you add them all really late into the boil? If you don't mind, could you post your hop schedule? When I used the filter (granted I've only had one...

    Trub/Hop Filter from BrewersHardware

I was looking at the hop rocket very seriously when I found this, and I had the same thought process when it comes to style. I bet your SS scrubbie idea would work, but at the end of the day you either have to clean them, or replace them next time. It was a toss up as the price for each unit...

    Trub/Hop Filter from BrewersHardware

The main reason I mounted mine horizontally is to reduce the turbulance involved with the boiling wort enterting the vessel. I was a little worried about hot side airation, and until I taste the final product I won't be able to tell, but I didn't see much in the way of air bubbles coming out of...

    Trub/Hop Filter from BrewersHardware

I thought I would use the filter last weekend, but alas it was delayed until today. I brewed a 10 gallon AG batch of APA with four ounces of pellet hops put loose into the wort. When there were fifteen minutes left in the boil I began to circulate boiling wort from BK>Trub Filter>March Pump>40...

    Trub/Hop Filter from BrewersHardware

I did look inside, and aside from a few small spots it didn't look excessively dirty. I will most likely let it sit in a PBW solution for a little while before I use it for the first time. This should get rid of anything that is in there. Does the dirt look organic or does it look more like...

    Trub/Hop Filter from BrewersHardware

I was looking into making a home made hop back out of an SS food storage container and a bunch of TC fittings. I was pricing out all of the necessary fittings when I came across this rig. I also considered the hop rocket, but figured that not many of my beers need late addition hops, and I...
