    Michigan Keggles, burner, chiller

Craigslist ad I really don't want to move this stuff halfway across the country, I make cider professionally and haven't really brewed in a long time.

    Siciliano's 9th Annual Homebrew Contest

As far as I know, beer camp is not something you can just buy yourself into. You have to win some sort of contest to get an invite. I'll have to double check, but I think unfortunately if a beer wins with two peoples name on it then those people will have to decide which one goes to beer camp...

    Siciliano's 9th Annual Homebrew Contest

Information can be found in this blog post, but basically the homebrew contest winner is going to Sierra Nevada Beer Camp.

Call for judges: Siciliano's 9th Annual Homebrew Contest

I wish that could be the case. While no free beer will be provided during the judging, we will be providing food and at least one beer post judging to help compensate, maybe a couple goodies to take home as well. If you're interested in judging or stewarding, email me at [email protected]

Campden tablet to inhibit wild yeast?

Not sure about the Campden helping out on this one. Never tried it, so I won't say it's a bad idea but I won't say it's good one. My first steps in this type of situation would be retiring a lot of my rubber and soft plastic components. Autosiphon, bungs, keg gaskets, etc. and just going...

    Airborne Bacteria and General Sanitation

By the time you dropping below 185 (but I think 180 is magic number), DMS is no longer an issue from what I've read in a couple books. Even less of an issue if it is an extract batch. Also, as far as ice bath is considered, I really would suggest building at least some sort of immersion...

    Brewer's Best Stainless Steel Pots

I am curious if anyone has really tried out these pots and know anything about their durability. I have been retailing these pots since they became available with no issue until recently. So I have a customer who encountered an obscure issue with her BB SS pot, after fermenting sauerkraut in...

    Siciliano's 9th Annual Homebrew Contest

The Friday night seminar lineup is still being finalized, but from what it looks like right now, it's going to one of our best yet. Once it is finalized, I will post it up here.

Call for judges: Siciliano's 9th Annual Homebrew Contest

It is not necessary to be certified to judge in this competition. The BJCP Comp Center has several documents about judging beer. If you feel you are able to shelve personal biases about beer and judge a beer based on how its adheres to the style, then by all means let me know if you want to...

Call for judges: Siciliano's 9th Annual Homebrew Contest

This is copied from an email I already sent to some potential judges. Greetings everyone! It is that time of year again where the 9th Annual Siciliano's Market Homebrew Contest is upon us! Thanks to many of you, last year's judging was success and we are hoping to build on that success...

    Siciliano's 9th Annual Homebrew Contest

This is copied from our blog post found here. Calling all homebrewers! It's time once again to get that oak-aged, dry-hopped, brett-infused, maple-flavored, spruce-tip, double-imperial, pale-porter hybrid into the bottle—the Siciliano's Market 9th Annual Homebrew Contest is right around...

What size/type of banjo burner do I need?

I use the Blichmann TopTier (which is well worth the $$$ in my opinion) to do everything from 5 gal to half barrel batches and that is rated at 72,000 btus. I can boil 18-19 gallons of wort with no problem. Though, Blichmann (I don't have any other verification) claims the banjo burners that are...

What Magnets/Stir Bar do you use for your Stir Plate?

It's a good idea to have an extra magnet around to attach to your flask and hold your stir bar when decanting and pouring your starter into your batch. Unfortunately, if you lose your stir bar in your fermentor, I would just suggest leaving it there until your transfer your beer. To me the risk...

Do you guy like Blichman kettles?

As a dealer and user of Blichmann kettles, I will say they are worth the price. Are they the best, that is debatable. I have been using a 20 gal kettle for almost three years with the Top Tier burner (which is absolutely worth it) usually brewing half barrel batches. The kettle has held up well...

Using the handles on a Blichmann Boilermaker

I lift my 20 gal with 16-18 gal of wort a few times per brew with no issue, its more of a liability precaution because they are heavy and can be dangerous if full of boiling wort. I just try to keep my moving while lifting to a minimum.

A lot of infections all of sudden?

I would look into any equipment that touches your beer after the boil, especially anything plastic. It is unlikely that the StanSan is the culprit and if you have been brewing for four years, I doubt your method is the culprit (unless you're getting lazy ;) ). Like gregger (which is actually one...

    Help with dishwasher sanitation?

Personally, I don't recommend using a dishwasher to sanitize bottles, I don't trust that entire surface inside the bottle is getting hit with sanitizer. Get a Vinator ($15-20) and use that with StarSan or iodophor if you're looking for an easy & reliable way to sanitize bottles.

    Schmidling Malt Mill

The adjustment mechanism stared to fail and it would fall out of alignment quite regularly. Also the rollers seemed to of dulled and had trouble grabbing onto the grain in almost any circumstance. While the monster isnt perfect, it only takes a few seconds to get working again (either rocking...

    Schmidling Malt Mill

We ran a Schmidling for a while at my lhbs but our mills are used intensively, probably grinding close to a ton of malt a week and sometimes more (based on how much malt I order). However after about 6 to 8 months, we noticed the Schmidling couldn't quite hold up. We switched over to the Monster...
