Thanks for the ideas. I have some extra space in my new garage.

My quick, easy, free bottle dryer

My first thought upon seeing this is to create a hinged bottom/top so you can clamp the bottles into the rack, flip the whole apparatus over and then fill them without taking the bottles out of the drying rack.

Cake pan + skateboard wheel + bike brakes = homemade peristaltic pump??

Peristaltic pumps are fantastic. You can pump slurries/chunks/junk Fantastically easy to clean! You only need to worry about the hose when pumping fluids(acidity/abrasion often eat regular pumps up quickly). You can meter or dispense specific quantities of liquid if needed. You can pump...

    Which book is best?

This was the first book that I purchased. It's by Terry Garey. The book talks about several varieties of winemaking - juice, fruit and some other stuff.

    Have I made ethanol?

A specific gravity of 1.00 corresponds to water at the correct temperature. If something has a specific gravity of 1.00, then it has the same density as water. Ethanol has a density that is significantly lower than water and will cause the specific gravity of your mixture to be somewhere in...

    Yeast transfer between batches

I extracted a couple volumes of a turkey baster from one bucket into the other (off the top) and waited. Repeated on day 3 and waited and that didn't work.

    Yeast transfer between batches

Will I notice the difference between Montrachet and whatever is suggested?? I haven't done any personal experimentation into how yeast strains affect flavor and such.

    Yeast transfer between batches

Unfortunately did not give a good mix before splitting the two. That's why I think my starter went into the small batch. I usually pitch it dry and when I do rehydrate I don't split between two batches. I was going to be Narbonne Yeast( Lalvin 71-D). All I have left is Montrachet and Lalvin...

    Yeast transfer between batches

I tried to stretch the yeast packet by rehydrating the yeast and adding a little sugar. Bubbles became very visible and then I added about half(first) to the small batch and the other half(second) to the large batch. I'm wondering if the majority of the yeast came off the top of my starter and...

    Yeast transfer between batches

I beseech thee for information: On Sunday I started two batches of raspberry wine. One 5 gallon and one 1 gallon. I used one packet of the same yeast for each batch and now the 1 gallon is bubbling happily and the 5 gallon has no activity. Is it possible to make the yeast from one batch...

    Hello from Minnesota(Minneapolis and rural)

Hello illustrious forums! I spend a lot of time in Minneapolis, MN and often summers in rural Minnesota. I have done a small amount of wine making so far but I've been bit by the brew bug! I came for a hard lemonade recipe and I stayed for the information. Real experience is so much...
