Alaskan Amber - Same brew, two yeast strains and two different color beers

I'd assume that the american ale yeast is fermenting faster, and starting to settle out. In a week or two they should both have the same color.

    Texas to Ohio

There are 2 breweries in Akron that I would recommend visiting, Hoppin' Frog (a mile south of Akron) and Thirsty Dog (near downtown Akron). Pretty much every beer that Hoppin' Frog offers is outstanding, though on the more expensive side. All of their beers come in 22oz bomber bottles. Prices...

    Corny Keg Vs. Bottling

That depends on how you want to carbonate the beer. You can either naturally carbonate it via priming sugar, or you can hook it up to a CO2 tank. It doesn't matter which way you carbonate the beer, it will still need some time to condition.

American Pale Ale Bee Cave Brewery Haus Pale Ale

I love this recipe. : ) In my 2nd batch I used safale us-05, results were awesome. This has been in the keg for about 2 1/2 weeks @ 11 psi. Whirlfloc used for clarity.

first time with a cooler mash tun

My 48qt igloo had a major issue with heat loss. The lid of the cooler was hollow. My mash temperature dropped about 8 degrees after an hour because of this. The solution was to drill some holes in the top of the lid and spray some insulating foam in it.

what is your go-to cheap beer?

If it's for myself, I'll go for labatt. If I'm supplying a college party, Colt 45, ~$16/30pk It's the best bang for the buck as far as "beer" is concerned.

Does anyone have a good Elliot Ness Clone Recipe?

Beats me ^_^. You could try emailing Great Lakes about it. I'm sure they could give you a ballpark estimate.

Does anyone have a good Elliot Ness Clone Recipe?

I haven't seen a clone recipe yet. If I had to take a stab at it, my first attempt would be something like this. Batch size: 5.5 gal Yeast: Wyeast 2206 Calculated O.G. 1.060 Calculated F.G. 1.013 ABV% 6.2 Color: ~8 SRM Bitterness: 25 IBU (tinseth scale) Assumed Mash Efficiency: 70%...

    Chocolate/Banana Beer

I attempted a banana bread beer once. I used 1 bunch of bananas. I added them to my primary fermenter 1 week before I bottled. To prep the bananas, I cut them into small pieces, boiled them for a few minutes, then just dumped them in. The end result was a good banana aroma, but almost no flavor...

What Beer Was Your Point of No Return?

It started with Thirsty Dog's Siberian Night. A couple years ago I moved to a house which is no more than 300 feet away from their brewery. On my 21st b-day I walked over there and sampled every beer they had on hand. Siberian Night was the one that made me say "wow!". I recently had the same...

    Efficient bottle sanitization

I fill a spare 6.5 gallon bucket (retired fermenter) will an iodophor solution. I can fit about 24 12oz bottles or about 12 22oz bottles in it at a time. I let them sit in the solution for 1-2 minutes. It doesn't take me more than 10-15 minutes to do 5-6 gallons worth of bottles. I wouldn't use...

    Belgian Dubbel Advice

I have yet to build a Belgian recipe. So after some research, I think I've come up with a decent idea. My overall goal is to achieve something learning towards Westmalle's Dubbel. I'm looking for a light body with a bold fruity/malty flavor. Batch Size: 3.3 Gallons Boil Size: 3.8 Gallons...

    Marxist Kolsch - new label

I'm loving the first label, minus the spelling of marxist in english/russian. I think it might look better if you replace the Russian D with the letter A, and the russian Ж with an X. My brain for some reason won't let me read the Russian D as an A. Same case goes for the ABV. I keep...
