My new brew system, a brutus 10 with some nice modifications

You have to light these pilots manually, either with a lighter or some other ignition source, once lit they will stay lit throughout your brew day (until you turn them off or run out of propane) and will fire your burners when they receive fuel.

Can someone check my water work?

Would this be a teaspoon in the mash or in the whole 10 gallons in my HLT of 80/20 water?

Can someone check my water work?

I live in San Diego and I am planning on brewing a Dry Irish Stout this weekend (in time for St. Patrick's day), and I have been messing around with the various water chemistry sheets and I believe I have a decent recipe. First off here are the SD and Dublin Profiles: (ppm) San Diego (Otay)...

EDIT ... Nevermind, I see they are known as "bushings"... derrr. Where do you find the plugs to put a 1/4" NPT RTD Probe into a 1/2" NPT Tee? Did you tap a plug, or do they make the one with the 1/4" NPT inside? Thanks, Jeff

My new brew system, a brutus 10 with some nice modifications

Hey Josh (or others running Brutuses) - I ordered 4" RTD probes planning on running them directly into the keggles, but now I'm realizing that for cleaning etc, that this might not be such a great idea. Should I just make an "extended tee" allowing for the extra length? Is there a QD that I...

My new brew system, a brutus 10 with some nice modifications

Any reason why most Brutus have the HLT on the right, and the BK on the left? I mean we read left to right... right? Is it just because the original was setup that way? Thanks.

NorCal - If I lived near one I would... Although it would probably blacklist you from ever working at a microbrew if they saw it on your resume. HAHA

    Careers in Brewing

Right, I got into accounting because it is something that comes pretty easily for me. I'm pretty talented in math, dig spreadsheets, and have some weird OCD when it comes to balance/symmetry (useful for reconciling and keeping debits and credits in order). When choosing a degree in accounting...

    Careers in Brewing

This is my impression as well... I'm not put off by shoveling and scrubbing for $8 an hour... I'm still relatively young, but the window of willing to accept minimum wage employment is quickly closing. I wouldn't expect to get a job at a brewery where they put me in charge of anything other...

    Careers in Brewing

Hey everyone - So my employer is in all likelyhood relocating to a horrible state which I have no desire to move to. I will not mention where because I wouldn't want those of you living there to be offended. That being said I knew I didn't want to do accounting the rest of my life and...

    NorthernBrewer Bourbon Barrel Porter

Those of you with stuck fermentation, did you use a yeast starter? I did a starter, and I'm 7 days into primary today, and after a rapid take-off my kearauesesnssedn (sp?) is gone and things are taking it easy in my temp controlled freezer. Maybe I'll kick it up 2 degrees tonight.

    Bourbon Barrel Aging

There is no mention of toasting... I haven't opened the packet to see if they are toasted, however, I suspect if they are toasted I wouldn't need to char them, and if they aren't, it sounds like charring is done to the oak cubes in other secondaries.

    Bourbon Barrel Aging

Hey everyone, thanks for checking out this thread. I picked up a Bourbon Barrel Porter Kit from Northern Brewer which includes some oak cubes which will be soaked in bourbon and then added to the secondary. I am thinking of charring the oak cubes prior to the soaking (think Jack Daniel's...
