Brewing beer and kombucha in the same house

hadn't thought of that being an issue. But I don't have any equipment cross over with the two. I also just keep my Kombucha in an upper cabinet in our kitchen.

Hop pellets and 30 day primary.

So not sure this is the right place for this so please move if needed. I have started primarying fir at least 30 days. My main question is when using hop pellets(as I usually do) will I get higher IBU's than I had planned on by sitting on whatever hops I don't get stained out before...

    Massive MEA.....

Thanks to everyone for their replies. I am using a carboy as the primary here so I thought helping the CO2 out would better in the term(obviously short term not so.). From some of the reading I've done, I thought it would not only help with fermentation time but I thought it(degassing during...

    Mead gravity confusion/questions

So I just started a new batch of mead...... https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f30/sourwood-dry-medium-dry-show-mead-188662/ The gravity reading I took was 1.090ish. I used 12.25 lbs of honey, put 2 gal of water in a 5 gal. carboy, added the honey and then topped up with water. Ended up...

    Massive MEA.....

Funny you should mention the batch size.....I was a full 5 gal. batch. Which is a whole different discussion. As far as oxidation, as soon as fermentation is done, I will rack and reduce head space. I would love to get some more input and clarity on the conflicting gravity reading I had...

    Massive MEA.....

Well, I know airlock activity is not a sure fire sign of fermentation, but I feel confidant that the little buggers are still chomping away in there. What is the reason for topping off? I would be diluting the must at this point no, I lost between 1/4-1/2 gal. Tim

    Massive MEA.....

I think there was a Dewalt involved..... I never knew mead must would be so hard to get off bamboo flooring!!

    Massive MEA.....

So as I was attempting to de-gasses my latest mead, https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f30/sourwood-dry-medium-dry-show-mead-188662/ I was a little aggressive and well lets say the kids were excited, the wife not so.... My question is, do I run a risk of a stuck fermentation due to yeast loss...

Bit of an edit, used 12.25 lbs instead of 11.....that's right I can't add oz. or convert oz to pounds in my head as well as I thought I could.

    Sourwood Dry-Medium Dry Show Mead

Well, I put 2 gal. water in carboy, added all the honey, topped it up with water. Aerated, pitched, aerated, took gravity reading. I mean it was only 3 gal. of water. I don't know. Tim

    Sourwood Dry-Medium Dry Show Mead

    Bottled my first Kombucha today!!

I laid up three more bottles this week, forgot the ginger at the store, so I used a healthy amount of thawed raspberries. Though I do like the health benefits from Blue Berries. Tim

    Bottled my first Kombucha today!!

The commercial one's I've had that I don't like have been too sour/tart and I have had bad luck with "national" brands being overcarbed. I mean I started my home brew with the dregs from a commercial bottle. The flavor differences come from the type of tea, amount and type of sugar, and...

    Bottled my first Kombucha today!!

Indeed I have! I tried one bottle after it had been bottled for 2-3 days. It was slightly carbed, and had a amazing blueish color from the BB's. It was slightly tart and sour, with a hint of sweet and BB flavor. It was actually just what I was hoping it would be! I let the other 2...

Can I culture yeast from Juniper Berries?

I guess this is kind of on topic. There is a Italian prune tree in my neighborhood that is LOADED with fruit. The look like they are coated with the same color of "powder" that is on juniper berries. I have always assumed it was yeast as well. Anyone ever tried this same thing with prunes...
