This thread is hysterical. HBT represents a huge brain trust. And here it is wasting synapses trying to figure out how to squeeze a few dollars. This is not what homebrewing is about. Maybe a new hobby? SWMBO might get you a metal detector? There might actually be a RETURN on that hobby!

You should take a Specific Gravity reading. Make sure that it's stable over a couple of days before bottling. The beer will look like it's getting darker from top to bottom as the yeast drops out. If you want to make a bigger beer next time use more grain, or add some extract to the kettle.

6lbs. of grain for a 5 gallon batch is not very much. You did a Brew-in-a-bag? I'm not surprised at your O.G. The beer is probably fermented out. I wouldn't worry, but this will be a very light beer.

Cool. Thanks for the reply. I am able to get a boil going on my stove with the lid partially covering the kettle. But I am going to try this material and see what kind of results I get.

ajitnair, What material did you use to wrap your kettle in? There are a few different materials discussed in the thread. I'm curious which one you tried out.

I wouldn't mind seeing a pic. Glad to hear that the extended primary is working out. I'm trying this method for the first time myself.

I second this. Try tasting it first, before going through the trouble of bottling.
