    Are my ingredients ok?

Dry yeast has a shelf life of up to two years, so that shouldn't be a problem at all. There should be a best before date printed on the packet. I've used grain that had been milled two months prior and it was fine. As long as it is sealed in a ziplock style bag you should be fine. Taste it and...

    Aging Porter

Did you steep any specialty grains or was this an all extract batch?

    Aging Porter

The porters and stouts that I have made have probably tasted best after being allowed to sit in primary for at least a month and then to bottle condition for a couple of months. I left a couple of bottles of coffee porter sit for about 6 months and really regretted not saving more to age. I'd...

Merry Sour New Year - Thanks Philly - RR Consecration!

I never used one myself, but I live/work near state stores so never had to find one, but from what I heard they were pretty horrible. Merry Sour New Year - Thanks Philly - RR Consecration!

There are a couple of craft brew stores in Philly, even though the state's alcohol laws make very little sense. If you're back in this area again check out the Foodery, Hawthorne's Cafe or the Bottle Shop. Oddly enough you can get some decent craft brew in pizza shops from time to time.

    2. I have to agree with just about everyone else on How to Brew by John Palmer, it's been really useful. Yeast: A Practical Guide to Fermentation by Chris White and Jamil Zainasheff was a pretty interesting read with a lot of useful info on fermentation. Currently working my way through Brewing...

    Home Brew Kits....

I started out with something similar to this: http://www.midwestsupplies.com/brewing-basics-equipment-kit.html and have expanded as I needed to. I wasn't sure if this was going to be a hobby that lasted or something that ends up in a closet. And other than my carboy, none of it has. Any of the...

Just finish my first all grain batch

And I wanted to say hello and thank you. I've been lurking around here for almost a year but never posted because, well, all of my questions had already been answered. You guys have kept me from worrying on multiple occasions, saved my beer at least once, and in general provided me with a lot of...
