    Bottles are exploding

I always wrap my cases in a garbage bag just in case this happens, but as it hasn't yet I'm not sure how effective that would actually be. I figured that the cardboard would absorb most of the shock and as long as that happens the beer shouldn't be able to leak out of the bag. Anyone used this...

    Aluminum Pint Bottles?

So, the bottles are holding carbonation just fine. Hard as a rock and no signs of leakage or explosion. I think they are good to go.

    Plastic/Aluminum Miller Lite Bottles

I have tried it with the miller aluminum pints that have the twist off top. They hold beer just fine, although they are a pain to clean. For some reason it is really hard to get the water of out of them after washing, seemingly no matter how long they sit upside down. They always have a...

    Blow Off Tube for Bucket?

The goop on the SWMBO was so thick I figured I would be better off just putting a few drops of silicone on there lest it clog the 3/8" tubing. I think it has passed the crazy stage now and should be fine without a blowoff.

    Blow Off Tube for Bucket?

Sure enough, the airlock was oozing goop only 14 hours after I pitched the yeast. Did smell good though!

    Blow Off Tube for Bucket?

Thanks everyone for the timely responses! That picture looks like exactly what I need. I used the Wyeast Belgian Wit, and though I havn't read anything about it in particular I think I'm gonna hook this up to my bucket pronto. Looks like I might be leaving work early today and making an...

    Blow Off Tube for Bucket?

"Do a blow off tube. A 6.5 gallon carboy and a 6.5 gallon bucket both have a 6.5 gallon capacity. Once the foam reaches that limit it's got to go somewhere." I was under the impression most glass carboys were about 5.5 gallons, which is why people seem to need a blowoff for them so often...

    Blow Off Tube for Bucket?

I just put together a partial mash version of SWMBO Slayer and put in my primary fermenter last night, from what I've read in this forum that beer/yeast usually needs a blow off tube. I havn't used a blow off tube yet, and was wondering - is it ever necessary if you are using a 6.5 gallons...

    BB Imperial Pale Ale OG?

I brewed this kit from brewers best and have a question about the original gravity. As far as fermentables, the kit includes: 6.6 lbs Light LME 2 lbs Light DME There are about 1.5 lbs of grains that are also steeped. The kit predicts an OG of 1.081 to 1.085. This seems way to high...

    Orange Pith

Sorry for the repeat posts - to answer the other question, I put it in with about 10 minutes left in the boil.

    Orange Pith

I put in the peel of 1 orange, but thats a whole lot of pith. I just wasn't thinking about it and the moment I tasted the beer between secondary and bottling I realized it was off, did some research and found out what I had done wrong. I was hoping it would subside a bit, which it did in those...

    Orange Pith

Thanks for the encouraging words. I'll forget about, let it sit, and move on to another batch. Already have another 2 under my belt since that mistake :P

    Orange Pith

I made a beginners mistake of adding orange peel to my second beer without adequately looking into the specifics. I just threw the pith in their with the rest of the peel. It was a high gravity beer, 8.2 ABV. It has been in bottles now for 3 and 1/2 weeks, I tried one today and it has an...

Belgian Blond Ale SWMBO Slayer - Belgian Blonde

I'm looking to do partial mash version of this beer. I put together these ingredients and was wondering if anyone could comment on whether they think this will produce something close to the all grain version. I would be putting the DWE in at the beginning of the boil and adding the LME just...

    Fuller's London Porter.. Extract recipe?

I followed this recipe, using the ESB yeast and switching out the 'brown malt' with 'briess special roast' and steeping the malts in 2.5G instead of 1G of water. Its pretty spot on. Slightly more chocolately/sweet than the Fuller's but really close given the simplicity. Here's one from...

    Aluminum Pint Bottles?

I'm planning to bottle a batch of Porter tomorrow and pounded one of these suckers just now out of the same curiosity. I like to go to a number of events throughout the year that allow you to bring your own alcohol, but no glass. I'll let you know in 1 1/2 to 2 weeks whether it can hold...
