    Coil or Pump herms HELP!

    I had a similar problem with my homemade HERMS. I did something similar as well. I opened up the coils and added a whirlpool fitting so that I now recirc and whirlpool the water in my HLT. I have two Chugger center inlets so it works great. Mash recirc through one and HLT through the other.

    Agar agar vs Knox gelatin

    I heated the water til it just started to bubble then took it off the heat and let it sit for a few minutes. Probably 180 to 190. Stirred in the agar. Stirred it into the carboy with a racking cane. I can read a book through the beer now.

    I will check the thermometer. I probably also sparged warmer than 168. The Carapils is a good idea. It has only been kegged for a little over a week. Just now at good carb level.

    Sure looks like an early version Brewhemoth to me. In fact I would say it is a first version. They went to tri clover fittings on top real early on. That one doesn't have them.

    Inline Aeration Question

    I put an inline O2 stone right before a sight glass so I can see the bubbles. LOL. I route the wort from the plate chiller to the sight glass passing the diffuser stone. I turn on the O2 for about a minute or two while filling the fermentor.

    Oxy Clean or PBW

    One difference I have noticed is that Oxi foams a whole lot more than PBW. I built a keg/carboy cleaner using a bucket and submersible pump. The Oxi foams right out of the bucket all over the floor. Not the PBW.

    Plate chiller and cold break

    Started using a plate chiller a couple of batches ago. It works great. 190 after hop stand straight to 65. My question concerns cold break. Should I recirculate back to the kettle til the whole batch is cool or straight to the fermentor? Will I get a good cold break in the carboy or the kettle?
