Blichmann QuickCarb (New from HomebrewCon 2016)

Well this is a truly dumb argument to be involved in. They replaced it because it didn't work as advertised. That is called good customer service. If you read what I wrote, I already indicated that I used PBW and sanitizer, as instructed by Blichmann. I'm guessing they are familiar with their...

Blichmann QuickCarb (New from HomebrewCon 2016)

Blichmann sent me a replacement. I usually find their customer service to be top notch. I have not tried opening and cleaning the original pump. Honestly I feel that I shouldn't have to. I used and cleaned it as instructed by Blichmann. I PBW'd and sanitized before and after each use. If it...

Blichmann QuickCarb (New from HomebrewCon 2016)

Does anyone have staining or mold growing in the clear triangle shaped part of the pump? I wrote to Blichmann about this issue a while back. They replied that it was just a stain. I tried cleaning the unit and then sanitizing and drying. I haven't used the unit in a while, but I've now...

    PicoBrew S Crashing during Mashing

I just got my Pico S and I'm trying to brew the pack that came with it. The system keeps crashing with ~140min left to go. It freezes up. It seems like a software issue. Anyone else have issues like this? I've poured the wort back into the keg and tried to rebrew this thing twice today, both the...

PicoBrew Pico S Versus Pico C

I backed it today. I'm stoked to get my hands on it.

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Brewing up a batch of Gordon Strong's Galaxy Pale Ale recipe from Modern Homebrew Recipes if the weather cooperates. It is my first time trying one of his recipes.

Sanitize corny keg lid release valve

I remove it from the lid every time I wash and sanitize the keg. I don't disassemble the entire pressure release valve though.

Bottling Belgian Strong Golden for NHC

I decided to force carbonated the beer in a keg to 4.25 volumes. The only place I could find the "Vinnie" bottles was Northern Brewer, I'd rather not give them my money. I ended up buying 500ml bottles that accept caps from MoreBeer.

LHBS Manager Here...What Do You Want From The LHBS?

I never thought of this, but people often do things I wouldn't. I also saw someone mentioned customers using the mill. A bad idea which sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen. I've actually emailed my grain bill prior to going to my current LHBS. Not once have they had it ready to go once I've...

LHBS Manager Here...What Do You Want From The LHBS?

I have worked a lot of retail in my younger days too. It is true some customers are just straight up terrible. All part of having a retail store.

LHBS Manager Here...What Do You Want From The LHBS?

Simple courtesies, like not nickel and diming customers for milling grain is one way a small home brew business retains and creates repeat customers. The shop makes more money on recipe grains than bulk ones too. So you should in essence make it as easy as possible to buy grain "over the...

LHBS Manager Here...What Do You Want From The LHBS?

You will need tolerance to cater to your paying customers, you know the people who keep you in business. there I fixed that for you.

LHBS Manager Here...What Do You Want From The LHBS?

Fresh Yeast and quality products, as others have mentioned. Brooklyn Homebrew, R.I.P., used to be my local until they closed. They always had very fresh yeast. It was a small store, they could run out of strains, but if they had it in stock, it was fresh. Same could be said about merchandise, If...

Bottling Belgian Strong Golden for NHC

I'm entering NHC for the first time this year. I'm thing about entering a Belgian Strong Golden style ale I brewed a month ago but haven't packaged yet. I would normally bottle condition this type of beer in Belgian 750ml bottles and the smaller "Vinny" Russian River style bottles. I like to get...

    Pear beer?

Both of those yeast are in liquid form. You don't have to rehydrated them. You can make a starter (I almost always do), but depending on the gravity of your beer and how may yeast packages you use, you may not have to. If you are making a low to normal gravity beer, 1 package, pitched directly...

    Pear beer?

Wyeast 1388 and White Labs WLP570 both can produce some pear characteristics. I think either could enhance a pear infused beer. A pear Belgian Strong Golden style sounds nice.

    Whirlpooling or Hop-Stopper

I don't pay attention to the temp in my boil kettle once it is boiling. There does seem to be good movement of liquid around inside the spider. I could see an issue if you packed the spider with too many hops to allow movement. I'm brewing an IPA this weekend, I will measure the temps and report...
