Post pics of your full-drain mash tun!

Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead, but how have you found your conical mash tun to work? I am busy on the same thing now and was wondering about the false bottom and what size you recommend.

    BrewMaster question

Cool, sometimes the pressure can seal up any gaskets, happens with kegs a lot. If it stops leaking you are good to go.

Brew No 2 - Not sure what to expect

Boil overs happen :) but you ended up with Beer! I wouldn't worry about the OG reading, most of time unless something drastic goes wrong, like getting your volumes completely wrong, the OG will be in the ball park of the recipe.

    Chronicles of a rookie

looks fine! Don't worry too much about the left over hops and trub getting into the fermenter, the beer will clear up fine with some cold conditioning.

    BrewMaster question

I have not used one of those before, but my guess it that it will ferment fine. You will run into issues when you try and carbonate and serve the beer though, as it probably wont hold the pressure needed. Is there anyway you can seal the hole with some kind of plumbers glue? Either that of...

    Time or lack there of.....

You could also consider the no sparge, no chill methods, which can cut your brew time by a decent amount. Might be a bit radical, but it certanily is an effective time saver.

    BIAB with AG Recipe ?

No major difference between BIAB and traditional. The only thing to watch is total liqour volume may need to be adjusted up as the grain absortion is a little higher. Other than that, is is exactly the same.

thanks for the replies guys! I am actually not sure about the OG, my hydrometer is with a friend :( But I am also fairly sure I am loosing something, otherwise, it would be more custom practice, which so far I have not seen. Thanks all !

pre rinsing grain, any problems with that?

Hi, Does pre rinsing the grains in cool tap water just prior to adding them to the mash do any damage to flavours/efficiency? I do BIAB and sometimes dont have whirflock or irish moss and the beer can end up a little cloudy and require a bit longer conditioning. However, the last 2 beer I...

    1 gallon resources / questions

Oops, forgot to add that. I made the bag from cheese cloth. I bout about 2 meters of it from a fabric shop and made 2 of them. You can use the voile curtaining too, but the cheese cloth seems to work. Put your kettle in the cloth and fold up the edges till you have a bag with the kettle...

    1 gallon resources / questions

Hi, Just checked my notes, I used 10 liters to mash. Lost about 500ml to grain and boiled of about 2 liters and lost about 700ml to trub etc. left me with a little under 7 liters, which was what I was aiming for. Basically, just figure out your normal mash and sparge volumes and go with...

    1 gallon resources / questions

Hi, you are pretty much right about there not being a lot of info out there for 1 gallon brews. Before we begin though, it must be said that I am by no means an expert, having only done 2 AG brews so far. I aim for a 2 gallon brew to fit my little corny's, but the process would be the same...
