    Blowoff tube: gunk in bowl

I brewed a wheat beer about a week and a half ago. I had a REALLY active fermentation with krausen flowing through the blowout tube for several days. The bowl with my sanitized water turned as brown as the beer. I walked in today, and the room smelled strongly of beer and i realized there was...

    randomish question...insurance claim

That's correct. I was just trying to see if most brewers would be worried about brewing with this equipment again. It seems like the consensus is that I should RDWHAHB.

    randomish question...insurance claim

Hi all, I don't post here often, but troll for recipes all the time :mug: I recently had a pipe burst in my house, and the giant hole in my ceiling was directly above some of my brewing equipment. It got soggy insulation in my carboy and the underside of one of my secondary fermentation...

    When to add coconut...

see my post right above yours. just finished the last two bottles this past weekend -- the whole batch turned out great. i actually came in 4th place with this beer in my group (22 beers) as part of the first contest i've ever entered. the head was NEVER an issue.

    Airlock overflow

uh oh...this just woke me up with the spitting & squeeling sounds coming from the airlock... edit to add: Thar she blows! :drunk: I've got the carboy sitting in a tub, and i'm keeping some sterilized tin foil over the top for now...but don't have the tubing to make a blowoff tube right...

    When to add coconut...

For the record, this turned out to be a GREAT batch :ban: I ended up using 21 oz instead of 28 oz. the coconut is definitely there, but not overpowering -- and i'm pleasantly surprised that it's got a decent amount of head :mug:

    Coconut Porter

i just tasted my first beer from the coconut porter batch that i recently brewed. i put 21 oz of coconut in muslin bags and racked my secondary onto that...let it sit for about a week. it's only been 7 days since i bottled, and the coconut is really strong -- will that fade much as time...

    Festbier BierMuncher's OktoberFAST Ale (AG)

thinking of trying this recipe this weekend. three big questions: 1. did it turn out well?? don't see an answer later in the thread 2. i've never done a lager. as a single dude, i've figured out that i can rearrange my fridge to make room -- is that wise, or will it make all my food nasty?

    Vanilla porter experimentation

My last batch was a Vanilla Porter, and it was by far the best beer I've produced. I sliced, scraped and soaked 2 beans in vanilla vodka for about a month, and tossed the entire thing in when I racked to secondary. (see the link in my sig for details) I will definitely be doing this recipe...

Vanilla Bean vs Extract - Denny Conn Recipe

I've wanted to do a vanilla porter for a long time...after scouring threads here, this is what i ended up doing -- and i just racked to secondary about half an hour ago. 3 weeks ago, i bought two Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla beans. I sliced them, cut them and scraped the insides and put...

How much nutrient is required for 5 gal extract batch using distilled water?

i can't stand the taste of my tap water, but have no clue what the stats are on it...i just figured if i can't drink a glass of water without wrinkling my nose, why would i want to put that in my beer? i switched to spring water from the grocery store 2 batches ago, and don't think i'll ever...
