It is for a 5 gallon batch. When you convert extract how do you know what other grains to add for color and flavor? Alot of extract brews only use DME or LME so how should I determine what else to add?

When i put the recipe into my beer calculator it puts the SRM at 33. That should put it at almost black. I figure I will just brew it and see how it turns out.

Thanks guys. I had this great Black IPA in Tacoma and it was really silky and smooth so thats why I added the flaked oats. Yes they are all pellet hops and I will move the 45 min addition. Thanks for all the input!!!

What kind of yeast did you use? And what temp did you ferment at. Some yeast strains are supposed and desired to give a banana flavor. Also if you fermented at to high of a temp or did not give enough aeration to your wort it can cause unwanted esters.

What did you use to sanitize with?
