    Ball locking vs. Pin locking

We need to have a sticky on this subject. I comes up a lot. As everyone has said pin locks are fine. That is what I have. Having said that, I believe that ball locks have two small advantages. They have a pressure relief valve that is handy and it is a little easier to remove the ball lock...

Can I use my auto siphon as a "wine thief"?

BE CAREFUL! Using your auto siphon in the described fashion could start a chain reaction that would unravel the very fabric of the universe itself! Of course that's a worse case scenario...

Hi from a New Brewer in Missouri

Welcome. I grew up in St. Joseph. Hmmm, a LHBS that also sells fake dog dodo. That is how I remember Missouri. :D

? one step cider. does it work?

If you want to do something like this I would suggest making a batch of EdWort's Apfelwein. Here is a link to the recipe: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f81/edworts-apfelwein-33986/ This is very easy to make and is really good. Thousands of gallons of this has been made since it was posted...

    Great Divide Score!!!

Last Thursday the SWMBO and I headed to Denver to celibate her birthday. She decided she wanted to visit Great Divide Brewery and take the 3 PM tour. So after a couple of half pints in the tap room we did take the tour that only had my wife, myself, and one other guy, Mike. Mike asked if there...

    A pleasant surprise!

Victory makes some great beer. I have never heard of Yakima Glory though.

just got a new all grain set up...now what????

OK, I am very new at AG with just one batch under my belt so help me understand why you indicated this is just a 5 gal system? It seems to me that the limiting factor here is the 10 gal HLT, but couldn't you just add more water to the HLT to heat up for sparge during the mashing?

    Tried any good IPA's lately?

+1 on the Surly. My wife just returned from a visit to our daughter who lives in the Twin Cities. She brought back some Furious and some of their Fest. Great stuff!

Wife Wants to Brew Me a Beer Recipe Help

The only advice I have is... You better hang on to that girl. If she and her friends are doing this for you she sounds like a gem!

    Carbonating, preferrably inexpensively

You probably want to just stick to bottles. The larger keg, I am assuming it is a half barrel, would have too much head space.

American Pale Ale Bee Cave Brewery Haus Pale Ale

Have a question.... I just brewed this as my first AG. It came out quite good and I was pleased, however, I was a little surprised that it wasn't more hoppy. It has a very good malt/grain tasted with a little hop flavor. Is this normal?

Exctract v All Grain ? and ? on that "hombrewy" flavor

I am not an expert brewer. All I can do is relate my experience. I began with liquid extract and had a "twang" taste in my beer. I bought the extract at a LHBS that sells a huge amount of the stuff so I assume it was fresh. I had an old fridge so I bought a temp controller and made a...

    Cornelius score!

Nice! That soda dispenser is very interesting. I think you are correct, I don't see why it wouldn't work for beer. What did you have do give for it all, if you don't mind sharing?

    Homebrew Noob

This is a bit of a controversy. There some who believe that doing a secondary helps the beer. There are others who do not believe that a racking the beer to a secondary helps (most) beers unless you are doing an addition, say hops or coco. I do not do a secondary for most of my beers, why...

    Kegerator help... please

You should be fine. Most refrigerators, if they have the freezer on the top, get their cooling from that freezer. I drilled mine through the side and was fine. The only thing you need to worry about is electrical lines that may have been run through the sides, so I second what "Ohio-Ed" said...

    Kegging question..

I have pin lock kegs and they are find, however, all things being equal, I would recommend ball lock kegs. Why? The biggest advantage ball lock kegs have is that you can use a standard socket to remove the posts. With pin lock kegs you need to use a modified socket (because of the pins). I...

Over carbed beer - need help...

The good news is that my first AG brew turned out well. The bad news is that my first attempt at kegging this brew didn't go so well. I will not go into the details but in my attempt to force carb I over carbonated the beer. All I get when I try to dispense is foam. I have the keg set at...
