    Fresh Hops - Need suggestions!

So my roommate acquired some fresh hops (still on the vine!) last weekend. We picked them, and have tons of awesome whole leaf hops. I've never brewed with them, so I'm looking for some tips/advice/whatever. We've got good quantities of chinook, cascade, and willamette. Anyone got a sweet...

a friend tried one of my homebrews...

Naw, no biggie. Trying to introduce bmc drinkers to homebrew with a porter is a daunting task. I'm sure your beer is good, it's their palettes that are lacking!

    what's the best hot sauce?

Oh man so many great options here. I'm with Yooper. Marie Sharp's is astounding. I brought a bottle back from when I went to Belize a few years back, but it's long gone. (Yooper, if you have any idea where I could order more, PLEASE let me know!!!) Tabasco's a good go-to, and the Tabasco...

    Drinking Games

learned a new one from my roommate last night. he called it scotian flip. everyone involved picks either heads or tails, and whatever you pick is what you stick with for the whole game. someone flips the coin. if its heads, whoever picked heads takes a small sip. the coin is flipped again, and...

    Drinking Games

A common one that gets thrown around here is called Buffalo. Real simple. If you're caught holding your beer in your dominant hand, someone else can call Buffalo on you, and you've gotta finish your drink. One of the few times in life where it pays to be left handed haha. Flip Cup is probably...

    Elder Scrolls Skyrim

Started playing the game just after New Years, and man has it taken over my life. I'm a high elf, specializing in destruction and restoration magic. Although I realized a little while ago that my magic left me pretty exposed when my magika ran out, so I started using one handed weapons. My most...

Craigslist gods finally give me a break

This is true. But if my understanding is correct, when you trade them in, the company should make sure all the tanks are up to scratch. That's how it works with my lhbs and the co2 tank exchanges.

    Peach Ring Beer

Maybe a double boil, then add some water? Not sure how much heat you'd need to melt those, but I imagine you wouldn't need much heat to burn em

    Man, I love Apfelwein

made up a batch of this in october, followed ed's recipe pretty closely. finally got my ket setup going this past week, and from thursday-saturday, me and my roommates almost killed a keg of apfelwein. so delicious, and sneakily alcoholic. coupla fun nights, thats for sure. gotta get another...

Bottle washing: by hand or dishwasher?

+1 If there's gunk in the bottom of the bottles, that probably won't come out in the dishwasher. Give em a good rinse/scrub with hot water, then once the insides are clean, use the dishwasher to sanitize. I've done it many times, though now I've got a vinator, which I find faster than a...

    Starsan foam

No problem at all. Do it

I think my 2.5 gallon keg blew up!!!

Man that's brutal. Usually the keg lids have valves that blow off, apparently around 130 psi. I have a hard time believing you got that high. Only other thing I could think of would be that it was a faulty keg. I can't see otherwise how it'd tear a hole in the side

How do you dry hop your carboy?

I just dumped a bunch of pellets into the carbon before I racked the beer in. Only problem was that my siphon got clogged when I went to keg it, shoulda put cheesecloth around the end or something.

    My new system (HERMS)

Friggin love the mash tun. Looks awesome!

    Proper kegging steps

All the carb charts I've seen show the pressure for carbonating AND serving. On the ones I've seen, if you want x volumes of CO2 at y temperature, then set it to z psi and forget about it. The pressure will build in the keg until it equalizes at the proper amount of CO2. This is also somewhat...

Starter needed for White Labs 007?

I made my first starter a few weeks ago, and I had krausen and airlock bubbles within 8 hours. Quickest I've ever had it take off. I used Wyeast Irish ale. Made a starter with about 150 grams DME and 1500ml of water. Boiled, cooled, poured it into a sanitized growler, pitched the yeast, and...

    lagering in kegs

Probably don't need an airlock, but it'd be worth purging the air out so your beer doesn't oxidize

    Priming sugar

Yep, you can use any sugar. Some add more favour than others, and you've gotta use slightly different amounts depending on what you use. Someone else will undoubtedly chime in here with more knowlesge

    Christmas Presents!

The only beer-related thing was the Oxford companion to beer. My dad saw that at the book store and said it had my name written all over it. The thing's awesome!

I am already a beer snob! how?

As much as I love a good micro/craft/homebrew, there's a time and a place for light American lagers. Many a night have I bought a bunch of old Milwaukee to drink while watching hockey with my buddies. Totally depends on the situation
