Urgent: Do these leaf hops look OK to use?

I would not use hops that looked like that. Run to your local brew shop and get some good hops!

    First Keg Question

Yes American Brewmasters was open! I managed to transfer to the keg, purge with CO2, and bottle 20 bottles. I'm still trying to get the hang of how the ball lock QD connectors work...but otherwise it was a good (but longer than I thought) day.

    First Keg Question

OK I found a homebrew shop in Raleigh that is open today. I'll head down and get the CO2 so I can purge. Hopefully this will allow me to carry out my plan.

    First Keg Question

I thought since I am priming the beer with dextrose that this would make its own CO2. This is a 5.6 gal batch (estimated after racking) I was hoping that I could rack the whole thing-add corn sugar--then bottle 2 gals (3 six packs) and keg the remaining 3.6 gals and let it prime in the keg...

    First Keg Question

I am new to kegging and have a new dual tap kegerator, CO2 tank, regulators, ball lock kegs that I recently bought off craig's list. I have a beer that is ready to bottle/keg today but I just got back in town and there is no shop open today to get the CO2 tank filled. I was hoping to...

    Shipping TBD from hops direct

I paid 14.50 shipping for a 6 lb order. Overall this is a great deal on 2011 pellet hops.

    holy hops!!

I just got my package from Hops direct. My order was for 6x1lbs of hops. The total package weight before opening was 8.6 lbs, when I removed the six hop packages the box and packing material weighed in at 1.6 lbs. So the 6lbs of hops weighed an estimated 7 lbs total (including the mylar...

    holy hops!!

Interesting--I just saw my shipping notice and saw my order of 6 lbs from hopsdirect had a shipping weight of 10 lbs. Sounds like a good deal to me if even a bit of that extra 4 lbs is due to a few extra ounces of citra and amarillo inside....

    Just tried my first Kolsch...

Look under the "light hybrid beers". Try the bee cave brewery Kolsch recipe. Its a very easy beer to brew and it tastes fantastic. I'm bottling up my third batch of this recipe in the last six months tomorrow. I keep running out...

California Common California Common- HBT Comp winner 1st place

Out of curiosity what temp did you ferment at? Was this with WLP810? With WLP810 I usually shoot for 60-62 for the first four-five days of active fermentation and then let it rise to 68-70 for another week or two. If the weather is cool then I secondary around 60-64 for another few weeks...

    Comments/Suggestions for CitraRye IPA Recipe

Brewed this up with my buddy today. We hit a nice 87% efficiency and I'm going to pitch it in a few hours with Wyeast 1056 (once it gets down to 64 F). The sample tasted great--I can't wait to see how it turns out! RyeCitra IPA Volume: 5.5 gal OG: 1.068 FG: 1.016 IBU: 68 SRM: 7.4 ABV...

    Comments/Suggestions for CitraRye IPA Recipe

Visited the French Broad Brewery in Asheville a few weeks back and loved their RyeHopper IPA. However it was not as aromatic as my most favorite homebrewed IPAs. I wanted to try brewing my own IPA with Rye and with a combination of Amarillo, Simcoe, and Citra hops that I really liked together...

Comments/Suggestions for "Wounded Citra" IPA Recipe

This beer turned out fantastic! I've tried many IPA recipes and dry hopped every one but none have had the wonderful nose that this combination of hops gives. I'm glad I have enough of these hops in the freezer to make this again! I may try a Rye IPA with this hop bill. Really really...

    NY Times article on Kolsch

A friend of mine who I just finished brewing up our second batch of Bee Cave Kolsch with on Saturday sent me a link to the following article: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/06/29/dining/kolsch-a-summer-beer-worth-the-fuss-the-pour.html I love the quotes "American craft brewers, who have...

    California common

Try Yooper's Anchor Steam recipe: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f63/california-common-hbt-comp-winner-1st-place-141137/ I've brewed this several times and it makes an outstanding beer.

Advice on ESB in secondary dry hopping

robotten--no way to cold crash--its in the 70's here now. adixon--the odd thing is that the beer appeared to be done several weeks ago after two weeks in primary and several days at 1.018. Then I racked it and when I added the dry hops--its like its either roused the yeast or gotten some...

Advice on ESB in secondary dry hopping

I have an all grain version of Jamil's ESB in secondary with an oz of EKG dry hopping. The OG was 1.052 and was pitched with WLP002 and was in primary for 2 weeks at 62C. It came down and stabilized at 1.018 (for 3 days)as I expected. I racked to secondary and let it clear more for a week...

Comments/Suggestions for "Wounded Citra" IPA Recipe

A few months ago I brewed Ed Wort's Wounded Knee which turned out very very good but I want try making a variation incorporating some Citra hops as flavor and aroma additions and in the dry hop. To give a little more malt backbone I've included some Maris Otter (which will finish my stock) and...

Suggestion for a good recipe for a ESB or Pale Ale w/ WLP002?

Thanks for all the suggestions. I've got it down to three recipes (pasted below) that fit my inventory of hops and grain: I'm leaning toward either Common Room ESB or JZ and JP's ESB because the OG is a little higher. I'm a bit surprised that the last recipe doesn't have a slightly higher...

California Common California Common- HBT Comp winner 1st place

This is my favorite recipe on HBT. I've used this exact recipe twice now and both have been outstanding beers. I did increase the Victory malt to 1 lb (I like the biscuit flavor) and my last batch I included a dry hop step with 1 oz of Northern Brewer. This gives a very nice (and subtle)...
