    Any ideas on my sterling?

My first guess is that grass is stunting them. Give them more space, fertilize, and water heavily. Then see if they take off.

    Is this ladybug larvae?

They look a little like them. But they also look like something unknown to me I saw on my hops last year. Lady bug eggs are usually tinted yellowish, not pure white, and the larva don't hang out and tend the other eggs, they go out and eat aphids. A better pic would help.

    What's wrong with this bine?

You can't follow a prescribed "water schedule," you have to adjust what you're doing to your specific conditions. Your rainfall, soil's ability to hold water (clay/organic matter content, tilth, etc), and what all is growing on that soil will all affect how much you need to water. If your...

    Hop runner depth/containment

Wood will eventually rot. You can install plastic rhizome barrier normally used to contain bamboo. Standard depth is 30" with a few inches left above ground. Not sure if it will work for hops but I imagine it will. Bamboo is far more aggressive than hops.

    question on fruit

If you've been squeezing the bag daily, I think a week is plenty personally.

    Not bitter enough

A lot of variables can affect the flavor/aroma of your homegrown hops. One of the biggest, and most difficult to get a handle on, is when to harvest. It's really more of an art than science. Too soon, and they won't have developed the oils that you're depending on for flavor/aroma. Too late...

first time hop grower check out my setup

You'll probably be fine. Being right next to the house will help, you'd be surprised how much it insulates a raised bed like that.

Mead for people allergic to wine?

"Pear" cider sold commercially is usually apple cider with pear flavoring (chemicals) added. If you read the label, 99 times out of 100 it will say something like "made from apples with other natural flavors." They rarely use real pears. If you made it yourself, well never mind, but it's...

2015 : Anyone have their hops growing yet?

I had some centennial pop up. Cut them back tho. We might be having a warm winter in the PNW but it's still too early.

    Jungle Honey Mead

OUT of direct sunlight, not IN direct sunlight. :)

    Terracotta vessel

You might be able to ferment in terracotta. I wouldn't age it though. The thing about terracotta is that is breathes; it allows gas exchange with the environment. For fermentation this could work to your advantage by introducing oxygen and letting co2 escape. But for aging, this will allow...

    Jungle Honey Mead

Just keep it out of direct sunlight and don't mix it with water yet and it should be fine at that temp. Honey is a natural preservative, the bees actually use their wings to evaporate out just enough water that microbial activity is stopped.

Dry hopping with your home grown beauties

I won't use my homegrown hops for dry hopping anymore. I lost two batches from it. I disagree with the oft-repeated idea that "hops are naturally anti-bacterial so you don't have to worry." When I go up to cut down my hops for harvesting, many of them get on the ground. There's plenty of...

    Primary is done (I believe)

How would your mead harm someone? Worst case it tastes bad.

Prevent hop roots from spreading around

No. The plant actually needs to spread to continuously create new underground growth, which is healthy. So if you contain it in any way, you should dig it up and prune the roots back every 2-3 years so that the roots have room to grow again.

Free to a good home (Portland, OR), two 2-year-old crowns

No one wants a 2 year head start on establishing their hops??

Prevent hop roots from spreading around

You can buy rhizome barrier, usually used for containing invasive bamboo, and install it prior to planting. The stuff is expensive and it's hard work digging a trench for it, but it's very effective.

Free to a good home (Portland, OR), two 2-year-old crowns

1 willamette, 1 centennial. I had to move my hops to another side of the house, and only had room for 2 plants vs. the 4 I had before. I dug up the other 2 crowns. They're healthy, nice-sized, even budding a little bit. Free to anyone who wants to come get them. Send me a PM.

    Yeast Strains

The poster states they're a "casual user" just trying to get their feet wet. Doesn't sound like they're interested in delving into the intricacies of premium yeasts at this point.
