    immer wort chiller..buy or build?

Yeah. With the price of copper what it is now, the savings aren't that great. It's a really easy project, though. Pick up a tube bender, garden hose to barb attachment, some plastic tubing and some hose clamps, and it's just a few minutes to put it all together. Not much reason NOT to do it...

    CO2 "Blanket" in secondary

I like this setup. Although I'd want to run another hose off my carboy cap and into a bucket of starsan solution; leaving it open would give me the heebie-jeebies. Speaking of heebie-jeebies, botulism! Hadn't thought of that. OK, will not try that approach.

    Erlenmeyer starter starter process tips?

What's the advantage of Erlenmeyer flasks over mason jars anyway?

Are truly hard alcoholics accepted here, or shunned?

Obviously, the decision to allow or not allow anyone who admits they are a true (hard?) alcoholic is not up to anyone here, except the people who specifically have the power to ban certain user names/IP addresses. And unless you put it in your sig (in really big letters), it's unlikely that many...

Need some help selecting a propane burner

I got this one (http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-Propane-Cooker-with-Aluminum-Pot/product/10205245/-1631022?cmCat=CROSSSELL_THUMBNAIL) because it was the cheapest I could find, and I didn't have any problems the first (and only, so far) time I used it.

will this wort chiller design work?

I just tried something like that on my last batch, and it was an utter and complete failure. The ice in the bucket didn't even melt; the plastic tubing just will not shed heat at any reasonable rate. I gave up and got a 50-ft coil of soft copper tubing. Will be fashioning that wort chiller soon.

    CO2 "Blanket" in secondary

What would happen if I just sucked most of the air out of the carboy and capped it, letting the yeast fill it back up with CO2 as they saw fit?

    CO2 "Blanket" in secondary

It is silly, but it's also... interactive. So :P I just remembered, I could also add ascorbic acid to eat up some of the O2.

    CO2 "Blanket" in secondary

I'm not sure how many people this would apply to, but I figure a lot of people like me are relatively new to the hobby and on a budget, so don't see buying much equipment anytime soon. Anyway, I recently picked up a 6 gallon carboy at a resale shop (definitely my best find ever at Goodwill!)...

Does clearing the cider really matter that much?

At the moment, I've only got a five gallon "Ale Pail" (with airlock and stuff) to do my first ever batch of cider. The guy at the supply store said that racking to a secondary was just for clearing, and it wasn't strictly necessary. I'm fine with a drink that looks cloudy and leaves a bit of...
