    Hops question

magnum is excellent for bittering. if you can't get magnum, i would say chinook. for flavoring as far as ipa's are concerned, centennial in high doses has always been my favorite. i also like ahtanum alot..it is a very mild, but flavorful, unique funky floral hop...

does not pasteruizing and not filtering effect taste?

i probably will...not really expecting anything out of it...just would like that next time i go into that store that the beers aren't ruined. considering the ruination was 17.49 a six pack it's not too much to ask for. it's even worse because stone doesn't even send beers to alabama, and i was...

does not pasteruizing and not filtering effect taste?

does not pasteruizing and not filtering effect taste?

i just recently picked up 2 of my favorite beers in the world, stone ruination ipa and stone's regular ipa. this time, however, both of them have a funny off taste to them and aren't nearly as good as i remember..they are also full of particles, and i don't remember that at all...what has...

is this growler gonna be dangerous to open?

so i had the not so genius idea of bottling some of my last brew in a growler with a plastic screw on lid (actually i was just broke and out of bottles and its all i had), and now i am kind of afraid to open it...it hasnt broken yet, obviously, but the plastic cap is sort of bulging up from the...

someone PLEASE tell me what malt this is i'm tasting...

i was thinking it was a specialty malt because it is such a specific taste...does anybody know the taste i'm talking about??? i would guess 2-row all in all is gonna be 2-row (rather pale and bland tasting) no matter what the variety, right?

    Fermentation Temps: poor college student

By the way, welcome to the forums!!!

    Fermentation Temps: poor college student

the temperature is very important to your brew, every yeast prefers different temps...if fermented at different temps, they produce undesirable off-flavors and could be the difference in an excellent brew and an alright brew...as far as bottle conditioning, yes it is more acceptable to bottle...

someone PLEASE tell me what malt this is i'm tasting...

so i've noticed most of the very well-balanced ipas that i like have a very similar malty taste to it...it is very hard to describe, for me at least, the only way i can describe it is 'bready' and sweet, but not crystal malt sweet, its like a sticky bready sweet...i'm hoping i can just name the...

Taking Primary Fermenter in a car

+1 for the swamp cooler...get a big trash can with a lid, put water in it,get some 1 liter bottles, fill the bottles with water and freeze them, use as ice packs, submerge your primary in the water, and voila. sustains around 60 and its very easy to regulate (if it gets too cold take the ice...

    Beer in the morning?

its not damn good barley wine, it actually isnt barley wine i dont think its called old dominion millenium ale (brewed with honey) i think 10.5%...it just tasted like a barley wine so i called it that. I think i was just upset from my ribs being jacked  ...and needed to ease the tension...

new beer i just picked up...

i think all four of those are terrible, but then again, anything under 80 ibu's can't really please my pallate anymore. HUMULENE!!!!!

    APA extract recipe bitterness question

the difference in 38 and 52 ibu's isn't big at all. You don't necessarily need to do the 60 min boil if you aren't adding the hops until 30 min , but i would recommend to go ahead and do the 60 min boil and add all 2 oz at the beginning, because those are your bittering hops, adding them at 30...

Beer in Perdido Key or Pensacola???

If you go to stone's website, click the tab that says "find", then click on national distribution, then click on florida. It will pull up a list of all of their distributers and what counties they distribute to. Find the county you are in and call one of the distributers, i'm sure they will...
