    Mash Temperature Woes

I was doing a recipe in Beersmith that called for 6-7lbs of grain in 4 gallons of water. Is that too thick?

    Water Quality/Chemistry Report Thread

I just got this water report for the City of Falls Church in Virginia. PH is 7.8. Any thoughts on the quality? I know they treat with Chloramine which I plan to dissolve with some campden. Magnesium – 5.9 mg/L Sodium – 23.2 mg/L...

    Mash Temperature Woes

Thanks I just bought that wisk. I just realized that my oven is large enough to fit my pot and has proofing/dehydrating settings that can bring the temp down to 150. Think I will try it next batch!

    Mash Temperature Woes

Is it fair to say that it takes a lot longer to heat the kettle after the grain is added? My thought was since there's 7 pounds of grain in the kettle it would take a lot more BTUs to bring the water up to temperature (if I miss the Mash temp) that if there was no grain in the kettle.

    Mash Temperature Woes

What has me puzzled is why my (3!) thermometers were not accurate inside the bag. I pull the bag off of the side of the pot and got vastly different (higher) temperature reading. I added the grain at about 2 cups at a time so I could stir them in and not clump. I had 6 lbs of grain in 4 gallons...

    Mash Temperature Woes

Tried my hand at BIAB today and am ready to pull my hair out. I was targeting a mash temp of 156. I added the grain into the bag at 157. Temperature inside the bad looked to drop 10-20 degrees. Starting heating up the put. None of my three thermometers (including a thermopen) were measuring over...

    Blichmann 10 gal Beersmith Profile

Has anyone out there setup an equipment profile for a blichmann 10 gallon kettle in beer smith that would care to share? I'd like to use it for BIAB as well as a regular kettle----do I need two profiles? I am testing the boil rate right now :tank:

    100 better bottles - 6 gallon - $399 - fresno, ca

Got my 2 today-thanks for making it happen! I'm still trying to figure out why there would be several hundred used better bottles in a warehouse. I could understand new if it was from a brew/wine shop that went BK.

    Arlington, VA Water Report Help!

Wow thanks for the help. The local homebrew store told me not to use the water at all! It seems to me I should boil/ crush half a camden tablet in at the very least.

Putting a fermentation chamber in the attic?

Thanks guys sounds likes its doable. I was concerned about condensation from the condenser (its humid in virginia) but maybe my concern is unfounded. For hauling the wort I could rig a winch.

Putting a fermentation chamber in the attic?

Well you know I am all about helping the environment and lowering my carbon footprint so maybe I can roll insulating the joists/roof into this project...

Putting a fermentation chamber in the attic?

Is there any danger or negatives I should be aware of? My attic can get quite hot in the summer (maybe up to 120?) but my fermentation chamber is a small fridge so I would think it could keep up. Would condensation be an issue up there? I'm sure dragging the wort up there would be a PITA but...

    Primo Stir plate made easy

Could you put this underneath a brew pot with an immersion chiller rather than stirring to cool down faster?

    Bottling from Warm Keg

So after moving ~18months ago I have finally got around to unpacking my brewing equipment and have a batch fermenting:rockin: Unfortunately my kegerator did not make the move (couldn't fix in the basement) so my question is can I carbonate in a warm keg (~60-70 deg) and then bottle on demand...

So how easy is it to bend the freezer compartment in a mini-fridge?

I recently got an old GE mini-fridge. Realistically, how easy is it to bend the freezer compartment? Is it easier/better to bend the entire compartment to the back or is it easter to try and straighten the compartment to the side? With the former I would be bending the copper line that connects...

Foamy Beer from year old keg

released the pressure many times and its still foamy. Should I keep on releasing pressure (can I leave the release valve open??) or should I wait a week or two like a fresh keg?

Foamy Beer from year old keg

Its been at temp so I guess it sounds like it has too much carbonation. I'll try burping it each 15 minutes for a couple hours till it can pour a glass at low (~9PSI) pressure without much foam.
