Anheuser-Busch InBev Acquires Northern Brewer & Midwest Supplies

Sad, to hear this. I spent significant amounts of money at NB and Midwest, I also have paid very good attention to how AB Inbev has used the legal system to snuff out smaller brewers. I've had a few Elysian brews since they were bought, and while the quality hasn't appeared to change, I'm still...

    Wedding Brew

causeimthesquid, I haven't posted here in a long time, but your thread brought me back. I just got married on the 10th of August. Brewed beer with my now brother-in-law and my brother for the wedding. ~20 gallons of raspberry wheat, ~20 gallons of chocolate stout, and ~15 gallons of IPA. We...

Kent plastic quick connects from bargainfittings.com

I use them on my 1/2 barrel brew system with silicone hose connected to them. Overall I'm quite pleased with them. They are easy to use and connect, just make sure you use some teflon tape on the threaded connections. I've not had any leaks from them at all and I've put 10+ batches thru them...

    Trimming hops at the top

Thanks for all the info guys! I'll probably do a bit of testing just to see how it goes, but it's looking like just letting them flop is going to be my best route.

    Propagating from Hop Cuttings

This is about what I'm doing. I've been taking about a 50/50 mixture of garden soil and peat moss in a cup, then saturating it with water then putting the clones in the soil then just leave it by the window sill. Out of the 10 I've tried, only 2 have died thus far.

    Trimming hops at the top

Tried a quick search, both here and google but didn't find much in the way of an answer. What are the downsides of trimming hop plants at the top when they reach, say, 10' tall and just allowing them to become bushier? Would it even matter, or will they just keep growing up? The reason I...

    2011 Hop Garden Picture Thread

Last year I grew 5 hop plants up the side of my house, one died, but the rest did alright. I wanted to step it up this year: I have 8 varieties growing now with a total of 16 plants (two of each variety). I transplanted the 4 surviving hop plants from last year: The one in the pic above...

    Holiday party beer tasting

Again this year, I've been elected to select beers for tasting/drinking during my work's holiday party. I did it last year with great results. The beer tasting is not the primary purpose of the party. There will also be wine tasting, food, etc. To sum it up, it's a pretty fun event for the...

Bad flavors from a All Grain batch

Haha, nice. I managed to do a somewhat decent amount of reading before I started with all grain batches, but I'm just perplexed about why it came out so.... bleh. Oh well, live and learn, I've yet to bottle my apple hefeweizen (3 gallons of fresh squeezed cider in a partial boil hef kit) that...

Bad flavors from a All Grain batch

I did make sure to recirculate, but it is still possible that I missed some grain that made it in the boil. If there was any, it was probably a quite small amount.

Bad flavors from a All Grain batch

Yes, the beer is about 6 months old, I wanted to give it time before I made to quick of a judgment but the flavor is still there. I'll look into the water profile more because I'm not familiar with that at all, and I felt that I didn't get the mash temp too high to cause any problems. I was...

Bad flavors from a All Grain batch

Hey guys, just joined (first post). I've been home brewing for around 5 years now, started with meads and ciders, worked into extract kits for beers, then to partial mash, then on to all grain. I've got a mashing tun, and a decent amount of gear to go with it, so equipment wise I'm somewhat...
