    21 year mead

I've bottled 2 batches I started during my sons birth year 2009. The first was a 18% blueberry blossom mead the second a 17.5% blueberry mead. One of the bottles of the blueberry blossom mead that I gave away was reported as bad. I'm not sure what happened but it could have been the recycled...

    Are there any commercial meads?

I just picked up a bottle of Plum Melomel made by B Nektar. I got the last bottle and they only released 144 to stores (Plum Market.) I agree with Fatbloke that most of the commercial meads are too cloying. With that being said I do like some of them. A list of the ones I like: B...

Need Recipe Suggestion - Ready by Christmas

I have seen the honey bears from Bloomfield Hills and wondered where the hives were. Do they own some land near Cranbrook? I graduated from Lahser and grew up in the area. Just curious as to where the hives are located. Oh I did a Blood Orange Mead that was similar to a MAOM. I used OB...

    Smokey Mead

Honestly I would just drink the whiskey and do something else with my mead. I don't see the point in making a mead that tastes like whiskey when there are so many good whiskeys available.

    Experiment gone right

Did you ferment this in a one gallon container or a larger container? Was that one gallon of water that you added on top of the honey and blackberries or did you put those in and add water up till the 1 gallon mark? Cause racking off of berries leaves a lot of headspace usually and then you...

    Pumpkin Blossom Honey

The pictures I have seen of it in containers make the honey look very dark. Is it strong flavored like buckwheat honey?

End-of-the-World Mead recipes - Mayan inspired

Actually I don't degass @ all and mine routinely break the 1/3 point on day 3 or 4. I'm still am not convinced that degassing works untill I see the data. I've followed all the links and still haven't seen any good data sets that prove this point. My SGs are very close to what you have going...

    Classification for contest question

I have a traditional mead that is @ 1.000 gravity but tastes quite sweet when you drink it. In what catagory would I place it in if I decide to enter it into a contest- Dry, Semi-Sweet or Sweet? Does it depend more on the taste or the FG?

Newb to mead and brewing - melomel question

I take a fine mesh brew bag and wrap it around my cane. The bag is a long one that extends out of the bucket. This removes 95% of the particles. I rack onto more honey which takes up the extra head space. I then rack one more time on to more honey using the cane wraped with fine mesh brew...

    store bought mead

I just got done bottling a 5 gallon batch that measured 1.00. It seems much sweeter than most wines that I drink. I prefer dry red wines. It was aged 1 year. I have tasted some dry commercial meads and they have very little taste at room temp, if you chill them they have no taste at all! I...

    Using Tea in a brew

I used constant comment orange tea for a brew and it came out very nice. I brewed the tea, removed the bags and dumped it in to top off my primary.

    Sima question

Thanks for making me look up Sima! You learn something new every day. I'm thinking you should have put it in the fridge a day sooner than you did. You say you let it ferment a day longer. With no gravity readings it is impossible to tell where your mead is at on the dryness scale. Am I...

    Wedding Mead

You should try making your own and buy some if it doesn't turn out they way you want it. Every mead I have made yet, only 9 so far, have been better than anything commercial I have bought. With that being said I have made an OB mead with 71b and it turned out very drinkable 3 months after...

    Fermentation Stuck?

For your next high gravity mead try to practice SNA. Use the honey.xls spread sheet to calculate when and how much to put in. I haven't had a high gravity mead get stuck since I have been using it.

    Wedding Mead

Open one on your wedding. Keep 25 bottles and open one bottle each year on your anniversary date till you reach your silver anniversary. If you are really ambitious make a double batch and do a Golden Anniversary Mead :D

    Applejack Attack!!!

Instead of wasting 5 gallons of good cider on something that will not end up anywhere near 80 proof, why not buy the real thing? http://www.lairdandcompany.com/products_applebrandy.htm Note: The applejack has grain spirits added to it, the apple brandy is the traditional "applejack".
