Fermentation Chamber Build - Mini Fridge

Bearded Idiot and Skottree, I use 3-gal Better Bottles to ferment, so I think I could use less room in a chamber. I have a question about the fridge. I would like to have my chamber be slightly more aesthetically pleasing, more like furniture. I would rather not have the fridge hanging off the...

    Belma Hops

I never heard of these hops until today, so I read this whole thread. You said you brewed a Zombie Dust clone. How did it turn out? I have brewed Zombie Dust three times now. First, I used all-Citra. Second, I used Amarillo/Citra Third, I used Amarillo/Citra/Simcoe (keeps getting better)...

Starting Homebrew Club in NW Suburbs

How did I not know there was a home brew club at Bigby's? I live in Addison. I've been going to Bigby's since before Ed owned it, and I have been bringing Mike, Ed, and Nick home brew for two years now. I will try to make your next meeting. How many brewers are usually there?

    Dishwasher to sanitize bottles?

It is not an extra step. The dishwasher is in place og the Starsan step. Also, it is nice to put the bottling bucket on the counter, sit next to the open dishwasher, and pull the bottles and fill. I'm mean when you use Starsan you have to set their bottle somewhere before you fill it. With the...

    Dishwasher to sanitize bottles?

Not concerned about the dishwasher jets, because it is the heat of the drying cycle that sanitizes. If you have a probe thermometer you can put the probe in the door and run the cycle to check it. I did, and mine hit 170f for 15 minutes.

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

I've been subscribed to this thread since near the beginning, and it is so hard to keep up. 600+ replies in 7 months. I'm a 3g brewer mostly ("Handcrafted by the Case"), and I usually take off November-March, because it gets so cold in Chicago, and I'm wimpy. I am planning on keeping the brewing...

3 FLoyds Zombie Dust attempt. Help/info requested

Really nice! My first clone brew was spot on: color, flavor, aroma... The Citra/Amarillo was different: not as aromatic, the color was darker (not sure why that was), and the flavor not as strong. Overall it was really tasty. Perhaps the Amarillo is just not as bold as the Citra. It is the...

3 FLoyds Zombie Dust attempt. Help/info requested

I am brewing 5g of this on Sunday. My last version had 50% Citra and 50% Amarillo. This next version will have 30% Citra, 30% Amarillo, and 30% Simcoe. I'm pretty excited about. All my friends love this homebrew. For the version after that, I'm going to brew the original Citra recipe, but I'm...

    Contradictory IPA names?

Well, it could be called IPA with a Belgian Yeast. Or Belgian Yeasted IPA. Or simply Fake Belgian IPA. But that makes me think there might be a real Belgian IPA. Hmm.... Big Hopped Belgian Beer Hoppy Tripel Hoppy Pale I give up.

    What got you into homebrewing?

Back in 1989 I was getting into imports and Belgians, and a friend of mine started brewing. That's when I gave it a shot. Back then all we had was Papazian's book and a little advice from a homebrew shop. I brewed about five mediocre batches. Fast-forward to 2009 when I watched Good Eats with...

    Brewing Small.

I brew 3g batches, and I generally use half a dry yeast packet or one whole smack pack. If I'm making a huge stout (9-11%) I use a whole dry packet or even two smack packs. For that, it would makes more sense to make a starter. I love small batches: easy to clean up, easy to lift the fermenter...

Try to find an Africanized Honey Bee, a Killer Bee. It will give your beer a more aggressive profile.

3 FLoyds Zombie Dust attempt. Help/info requested

I recommend trying this with Citra/Amarillo. Fantastic. Only two weeks in the bottle and the favor is just awesome. This will go quickly. For the next batch I'm going to ad Simcoe to the mix. I'll post it.

    2.5 gallon keg

I just recieved Williams Brewing catalog, and they have a 1.75gal version of the Chinese keg for around $85. I brew 3gal batches, and the smaller one might be nice.
