    Dunkel Help!

My dunkelweizen that I ordered from More Beer! Is not reaching the expected final gravity. I followed the kit instructions and yeast instruction exactly. The OG was where it should be at 1.050. It has been fermenting for 11 days now at 62-64F and the FG has stayed at 1.022 for the last 3...

    Bottle wand to sanitize?

Does anyone ever use the bottle wand to sanitize bottles? I wanted to fill my botting bucket with 2.5 gallon solution of starsan and fill about 12 bottles at a time then pour the starsan back into the bottling bucket and do the rest of the bottles. Does anyone see a problem with this...

    New Air Freshener: Brew Day

Does anyone else wish that the LHBS sold air fresheners in the shape of hops, or a bottle, or a mug, that smelled like sweet wort on brew day? I just brewed last night in my apartment and you can smell it in the corridor outside. I love coming home to that smell and I am saddened when it fades.

    Trub in Secondary?

My honey porter was in the primary for about 10 days with a 1066 OG and when I racked to the secondary the FG was 1016. After 1 day in the secondary I noticed there is already about 1 inch of trub on the bottom of the carboy. My plan is to leave it in the secondary for 2 weeks. Will sitting...

How Do I Take a Gravity Sample?

My porter has been in the primary for a little over a week and the airlock has settled down. Is it ok to take the lid off and use a sanitized turkey baster to take a sample? Will this introduce too much oxygen? If I have to check the gravity over a couple of days to ensure that it is done...

Do I need to condition at 55 Degrees?

I am following an extract clone recipe for Sierra Nevada (honey) Porter and it has the following instructions: "Ferment at 68F for 2 weeks, then transfer to secondary fermenter and condition cool (50-55F) for 3 to 4 weeks. Bottle and age at 50-55F for 3 weeks." The reason I would rather...

    Southern Star Bombshell Blonde Ale

This is my newest obsession. Has anyone else tried it? It is from a small, young brewery in Conroe, TX. I would love to be able to try to match this using extract but I wouldn't have the first clue. If you live in Texas and haven't tried it you are definitely missing out! But the only...

    Top Up Secondary?

My honey porter has been in the primary fermenter (bucket) for 1 week and I plan to rack to my secondary (carboy) in another week and condition at 55 degrees for 3 weeks. When I rack to my carboy I will have a lot of airspace at the top, should I add water to bring the level to within a...
