    Fermenting water?

Has anyone tried fermenting plain water with yeast and sugar? Now that I have an empty fermenter I'm considering tinkering around with seeing what ABV% I can get like that. If it comes out around 3-5% then add a bottle of the rootbeer syrup and see how that is. Just wondering if anyone has tried...

    Regulator screw won't turn

I'm having a problem with the regulator screw not wanting to turn past a certain point. I had the regulator on 20 psi carb'ing a keg. I then lowered the pressure to seal another keg. Now I can't get the screw to turn in more than past the 10-12 psi mark. I had this same trouble when I first got...

    Corny disconnect problems

I having an issue with the gas disconnect where it has a loud co2 leak around the threaded part of the disconnect. I've tightened it with a wrench and it still occurs. Would putting teflon tape around the threads help any? It sounds more like its coming from the threads than from the barb...

    Liquid in gas line?

Is it unusual to have liquid in the gas line? I would think so. I have the regulator connected to a 20oz paintball bottle that was filled at academy sports. I set it at 10-12 psi and opened the out valve on the regulator. The keg is filled with 5 gallons of water/PBW. As soon as I turned it on I...

    New kegging question

Question on carb'ing in the keg with priming sugar. I have a brewhouse cream ale thats been in the secondary for about weeks now. If I put the packet of priming sugar in the keg and seal it for another 2-3 weeks, would it be sufficiently carbonated and ready to server at that point? I'm...

CO2 refills in the Grapevine/HEB/Arlington areas?

Can anyone recommend a good CO2 filling place fairly close to the Grapevine(closer to work) or Arlington/HEB(closer to home) areas in TX? The only mentions I've found so far are in Dallas and Garland. That's a bit further than I'd want to drive if it could be avoided.

    Interesting mashtun design

Here's a design I came across on youtube. It's one of those that look too simple to be practical. Although the mesh looks tight enough that it might not jam up easily. Thoughts?

All grain with coolers vs stovetop

Are there many pros or cons to all grain brewing with igloo coolers vs the stoptop method posted by DeathBrewer? https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f39/easy-stovetop-all-grain-brewing-pics-90132/ I'm looking to start into allgrain soon and reading alot of posts on it to get how its done. The...

    Kegging with sugar?

I'm ordering my first kegging setup this week and had a question I didn't readily find mentioned in the forums. I'm planning on doing the primary in Ale Pail and then siphon into a keg as the secondary and let that sit sealed at room temp for 3-4 weeks to age. At this point would it be a...

Is 4.5cu ft big enough for 2 kegs?

Any one know if this fridge would be big enough to hold two of the 5 gal soda kegs? http://www.walmart.com/GE-Compact-Refrigerator-Freezer/ip/10098025 I've seen alot of mentions of 4.9cu ft fridges for kegerators. I don't think .4 cu ft would be that much of a difference, but thought I'd get...

    Force carbonation in 48 hrs?

Here's something I came across that just doesn't sound right from the various articles I've read on kegging. I came across a site the other day that said to carb the beer at 40psi for 24hrs. Then purge the keg and carb at 20psi for 24 hrs. Then purge the keg and set at 4-6psi and its ready to...

Replacement for the included Brewhouse yeast

I'm going to be starting the Brewhouse Cream Ale shortly. I am wondering if there's a better yeast to use with that instead of the included Coopers yeast? I've seen some posts where people have mentioned using Nottingham yeast instead. Would that be a good choice for this?

    Two batches, same funky taste/smell

I've now made two batches of beer since I started the homebrewing. Both are the Mountmellick brand canned extract. One being the Irish Stout and the other Brown Ale. They both have the same odd taste and smell to them though. I really can't stand more than a couple tastes of either. The smell...

    Soda w/alcohol

MOD EDIT: Post moved to new thread. Here's a couple ideas I'm kicking around from reading this and other posts on idea of making alcoholic sodas. It seems a good method might be to mix sugar, water, yeast in a fermenting bucket with an airlock. If I'm understanding the process correctly...

    DIY bag in box syrup

I'm looking at trying to DIY a bag in box syrup like used for coke/pepsi postmix fountains. I have 5 head coke fountain I got cheap on craigslist. Just trying to figure the recipe I'd need right now. The syrup is made 5:1 water:syrup. 5 gallon bag of syrup makes around 30 gallons. I haven't...

Waiting too long to rack to secondary?

I'm on my second batch using the Mountmellick canned extract. I've noticed that the airlock bubbles frequently for 4-5 days and then slows down to almost none. Once I siphon it over the the secondary carboy the airlock no longer bubbles at all. The inner cone of the airlock seems raised up...

Question on airlock bubbling over the side

This maybe normal, but being its my first try at this I wanted to get a more experienced opinion. I started a batch of MountMellick Irish Stout yesterday morning. By that evening the airlock was blowing alot of big soap-like bubbles and the lid of the bucket was wet. I started off filling...
