    Mills

Thanks for the info. As I mentioned, I’ve been pleased with mine, but I’m just one data point. Certainly more data is better, and if the general consensus is against the mill, I’m more than happy to help others make a better, more informed decision. Anyways, my apologies if my earlier post came...

    Mills

While I’m sure you have your reasons, please share them. If you’re so dead set against the barley crusher, explain why. I’ve had nothing but good luck with mine, and have had zero need to spend more on a more expensive mill. What rpm and gap are you running? Does that make a difference in your...

    Mills

I really have no complaints! I’ve had one issue in the 4 years I’ve run it, and that was about 3 months ago. My grain had a small rock in it that jammed the rollers, so I had to dump all the grain out of the hopper and start over. The rollers were not damaged and once I cleared it, it ran just...

I run a barley crusher on a custom table with a harbor freight motor. It has worked great for years. The MM3 looks awesome too, but I have no experience with it personally.

    Preventing oxidation during bottling

I’ve been brewing a while, and most of the time, I keg my beers. When I want to bottle them, I use a counter pressure bottling gun, which works awesome. My challenge is for refermenting / bottle conditioned beers. I love making Belgians, and I recently picked up a floor corker so I can cork...

    Damaged False Bottom

Dude - this just happened to me yesterday, and I found your thread while trying to figure out what happened. I have the exact same false bottom (and I think it's the same diameter, too - 19.5"). I was brewing 15 gallons of saison, with a 38 lb grain bill (I did a 55 lb grain bill last week just...

    Help! We did something stupid!

OP Here, thank you for the suggestions! I'm going to take the approach to drop some priming agent into each bottle, to avoid oxidation, as you guys have suggested. The beer was originally brewed in March, and was racked to secondary in mid-April, where it has "rested" until now. The final ABV...

    Help! We did something stupid!

So, today, we bottled our 10 gallon batch of the Quad we did, and it tastes awesome. We got great fermentation, and finished out at 1.003. I did a 5 liter starter of yeast to pitch for bottling, and we pitched it in before bottling. We did cork and cage, with ~40 750s, and 18 or so 375s...

    WLP 500 Starter Issues

I went ahead and pitched the starter into the wort, and it did start fermenting overnight. Not as vigorous as I would like for the start, but it'll work this time around. On the next brew with this yeast, I'll be sure to start it at least 48 hours ahead of time, to make sure it gets a good...

    WLP 500 Starter Issues

I'm brewing a second batch of a Dubbel (10 gallons), and both times now I've had problems with starters. Both times I've done this, I've made a 2L starter the night before, using 200 grams of pilsner DME, a TSP of Urea / Diammonium Phosphate (the yeast nutrient from LD Carlson), and a bit...

What to use as a weight for dry hopping

Thanks for all the suggestions! I'll probably give the marbles a shot, I think I have a few laying around (if only I hadn't lost them!)

What to use as a weight for dry hopping

I've dry hopped for the first time, and I can't seem to get the hops to stop floating (I used whole flower cascade in a nylon reusable bag). I was trying to think of something to use as a weight in the bag, but didn't want to introduce any weird materials into my beer. Any suggestions?

    Noob from Colorado!

Hi, I was just browsing around for some information on Keg composition (aluminum vs stainless), and found a few threads on the forum. I have a bunch of other questions, so I signed up! I currently have a pale ale in the fermenter. Should be just about ready to bottle!
