    What are you drinking now?

If I could have only one beer forever more it would be Firestone's DBA. So good and I'm a hop head. Drinking some Victory Hop Devil at the moment. Delicious. Looks like a couple Torpedo's in there as well that I will probably (for sure) get to.

    Star San question

Notice that he is using 1/2 oz of starsan per gallon which is way too much. 1/2 oz per 2.5 gallons is more accurate according to their directions..

    Newcastle Winter IPA

Did a search but found nothing? Saw these in the store and wondering if anyone has tried them and had an opinion. Worth trying? Hated the Werewolf Red they released recently but kind of like (but never buy) the brown. Whats up with their website btw. Awful.

simcoe fans get it while it's good

Have noticed locally that pellets are gone but whole hops are still around. Same with Centennial.

    Bad lot of Safale US-05

Another case of 2 long ferments 7+ days before drop out. First finished a little high but I dont think it was the yeast. Went to dry hop the second last night at 8 days and was surprised at the size of krausen when I opened the bucket. 2 day lags on signs of fermentation on both which is...

Skip FG reading til bottling day?

Agreed - I never take a FG reading until I am bottling. Pitch enough yeast and wait the right time and you'll be good. Never understood the logic of opening up your fermentor for 3 days straight to make sure the FG was not still dropping. Just wait a few weeks and it will be done. Every time.

American IPA Bell's Two Hearted Ale Clone (close as they come)

Brewing this now - partial mash. 4lbs 2 row 2lbs Vienna 1/2 carapils 1/2 c15 3lbs Briess DME Probably a little higher OG but my pm's dont seem to ever seem to attenuate fully so should be good. No pellet hops available so going with whole hops. Only second time with them and they are kind...

    Lazy?

Laziness is the only reason that my beers sit in primary for more than a couple weeks. I justify it in my mind saying that it will only get better but really I am just lazy. Finding the time to f up the kitchen and make the noise etc. really only happens on one or two nights a week. If I miss...

How do you determine your next brew?

After a couple years of doing this I find myself just brewing a few recipes that I like over and over. Last 6 months or so have been all repeats. 4 or 5 recipes and once one is gone I just do it again. I need to snap out of it but its hard when I KNOW the recipe will be good. Good to have...

"home brew" taste. What's the deal?

    Awesome. Thanks for that~

Difference in Extract and Partial Mash

What Yooper said - Basically, partial mash is mashing as much grain as you can and then adding extract to get your total fermentable sugar. The main ingredient in most recipes is say 2-row which is basically lme or dme in grain form. Most recipes have the highest percentage of ingredients...

"home brew" taste. What's the deal?

Please elaborate. I use dry yeast a lot and have always thought that I never aerate enough. Cheers~

What do you think of this recipe for IPA

Probably - you really dont know your efficiency at all and if you undershoot with that big of a first hop addition you might regret it. I would brew your recipe as is and throw 1oz at 60 and the other at 30. 10 & 5 for the last. 2 oz upfront at 40 seems like a lot and kind of a waste.

    What are you drinking now?

Indica IPA from Left Coast - Just Ok IMO.

    Score!

Nice! A pound - wow. I got a couple oz's out of my LHBS last week VERY reluctantly. Had to ask for them after I didn't see them (had no idea they are a hard ticket) and they kind of looked at each other and scratched their heads for a while before offering a packet.

    Beginner Chilling Wort

Use your bathtub and fill it with cold water. Stick your pot post boil into it for around 10 minutes, swirling it around. This will save you a ton of ice. The initial fiery pot melts off too much ice right off the bat. Then stick into your sink full of ice/water.
