    Complete Home Brew Setup

Located in Toronto. 2 Blichmann Kettles (one with false bottom & auto sparge, other with hop blocked), 2 corny kegs, co2 tank, taps, malt mill, march pump etc... anyone interested in buying my whole kit? I have not yet done a complete interview.

    Atlantic Bitter - ESB

looking at my notes, I think my I fermented on the cool side, which probably inhibited a lot of the yeast character that's needed.

    Atlantic Bitter - ESB

Just looked up Ringwood and noticed that it's the same strain as WLP005. Maybe I'll use a more traditional ESB strain to get the fruity esters I was missing.

    Atlantic Bitter - ESB

Great to compare! They're not too different. I made the following tasting notes from mine: Too clean (yeasty), too roasted (chocolate malt), not enough hop aroma. I was planning on trying it again this fall with Ringwood yeast, a touch less chocolate malt, and a bigger flavor hop addition...

    Atlantic Bitter - ESB

Atlantic Bitter This ESB is inspired by Propeller Brewing's ESB. I couldn't find a definitive clone recipe so I just improvised. It doesn't taste much like the target beer, but is very delicious. I ran out of Willamette hops so I skipped the dry-hop addition, and I think I swapped some of the...

    Poor hop utilization?

No hap bags, just thrown in the boil. I used hop pellets.

    Poor hop utilization?

It was meant to be similar to Saison Dupont. Based off of a clone recipe from 'Clone Brews'. Looks like it put me on the wrong path?

    Poor hop utilization?

    Used Wyeast 3711.

    Poor hop utilization?

    Here is the recipe I used: Fermentables Ingredient Amount % MCU When Canadian Superior Pilsen 10lb 0oz 85.1 % 2.7 In Mash/Steeped Belgian Caramel Vienna Malt 8.00 oz 4.3 % 1.9 In Mash/Steeped Belgian Caramel Munich Malt 40 4.00 oz 2.1 % 1.8 In Mash/Steeped Sugar - White...

    Poor hop utilization?

Hey everyone, I believe I am getting poor hop utilization. All of my beer seem to be lacking in that hop bitterness, or tasting too sweet. I am doing full boils of 5-gallon batches on my stove. I am not sure if I am getting a really vigorous boil, but it's as much as my system can do...

    Maltodextrin in AG Brewing?

But because I control the wort fermentability, wouldn't mashing at a higher temp be equivalent to using generic DME with maltodextrin?

    Maltodextrin in AG Brewing?

Hey guys, I am planning on making a Brooklyn Pennant Ale clone from the Clone Brews recipe book and I have a question regarding the use of maltodextrin. This book is primarily written for extract brewers. At the end of each recipe there's a little scrawl about what to change if you're...

Max carbonation level of Grolsch swing top style bottles?

Thanks guys. I'll try somewhere between 3.0 and 4.0, like 3.2.

Max carbonation level of Grolsch swing top style bottles?

Hey guys, I am about to bottle a Saison and I am looking to get a very high level of carbonation, like what you get in a bottle of Saison Dupont. I bought some swing-top style bottles (E.Z. Cap, 16oz) because I thought I read somewhere that they could withstand more pressure - but I can't...

    Mill street tankhouse ale clone

Where does that bite come from? I thought it might have some rye.

Using the handles on a Blichmann Boilermaker

Hey guys, I was really bummed out to see the big warning on my boilermaker when I unpacked it. I have a 10 gallon kettle and was planning on moving it with about 5.5 gallons in it. Does any do this? Are the handles that weak? I didn't know it was a requirement to have a stand or a pumping...

Anyone else having trouble getting their Blichman pots?

Mine is days away from arrival, finally!

    Newbie question about MLTs

To clarify, I was planning on filling my MLT, getting it to the right temperature, and adding all the grain. Followed by the rest, drain the wort, and sparge the remaining sugars.

    Newbie question about MLTs

Hey guys, I've done a few extra+steep batches and I am now moving on to AG brewing. I splurged and bought two Blichmann 10g Boilermakers: one as an MLT, and one for boiling. My question is: Is there any reason why I can't just fill my MLT with all my mash water and heat it directly...

Anyone else having trouble getting their Blichman pots?

My HBS said it was due to a materials shortage. They can't make any.
