OK to make dog treats if using rive hulls?

Thanks to all for the replies. Ski - the link GenIke posted is the recipe we use. And since nobody else has pointed it out yet, keep the hops away from the dogs - definitely not good for them! Now back to cleaning up my equipment so I can BBQ some carne asada!

OK to make dog treats if using rive hulls?

I'm in the middle of a brew (Yooper's Oatmeal Stout) and I'm thinking of using the spent grain for a batch of dog treats. However, I put a half pound of rice hulls in this batch and I've never done that with grain for treats before. Think it will be OK? I don't want anybody's pups to have a...

OK to use old DME for starters?

Thanks all, I appreciate the feedback! I made the starter and it is bubbling away on the stir paste. BTW, thanks for the top on freezing the DME, never thought of that!

OK to use old DME for starters?

Getting ready to make a starter for Saturday's brew and I'm wondering if it would be OK to use some DME that's probably a year old. It's been in a zip lock bag but is more crunchy than powder. I do have some fresh stuff but have to throw out a batch worth if it is OK to use. What do you think?

    Feedback on a Belgian recipe

I would agree but this recipe minus the biscuit malt and with a slight rebalanced of the percentages is one I've brewed before and it was well received by my homebrew swilling buddies. I thought adding the biscuit malt would give it a bit of a different flavor but I'm not sure of the amount I...

    Feedback on a Belgian recipe

Hi all - I haven't been able to brew much lately and it looks like I'm going to have a chance to get one or two drew days in before the holidays so I'll have some homebrew for friends & family. One of the beers I want to brew is a revised recipe of a Belgian Golden Ale I brewed a couple years...

    Fermentation Sampling

For me, there is no sampling during fermentation. I have bought a chest freezer and put temperature controls on it, added a thermo-well to my fermentors and have a separate control for a firm-wrap so I can control my fermentation temps very closely. Then I let it sit at the proper fermentation...

    Beersmith mobile for android

I definitely miss my keyboard but I was thinking more of what BS PC version functionality is missing from the android version. Could you still pull up a .bsm file and use one of your existing recipes? Can you build one from scratch and see IBU's, color and estimated ABV change when you modify...

Looking for quick & cheap CO2 rig

First off, nicely done insanim8er - excellent portable rig you have there. I'll set that as a future goal. For now, I'm going to go the cheapie route and get the little plastic CO2 cartridge filler. So I see that in some stores ads they show them selling with a ball lock (or probably pinlock as...

Looking for quick & cheap CO2 rig

I read in one of the posts I found that the small cartridges are good for dispensing about 1 gallon of homebrew

Looking for quick & cheap CO2 rig

I think in the long run I may build a rig like InsanImar posted up. However, for the 4 TYG party, I think I'll go with the little cartridge deal. Concern for over pressure is noted and I'll watch for diddlers - also, the tank has an overpressure relief valve. Hopefully I won't be testing that...

Looking for quick & cheap CO2 rig

I have a CO2 tank set up for my kegerator but for the 4th of July I will be taking a keg of my summer ale to a friends house for the festivities. I don't want to have to tear apart my CO2 setup for the kegerator so I'm looking for a quick and inexpensive way to do this. The beer will be...

    Beersmith mobile for android

So if you are/were a PC based BS user, what functionality do you miss when working on the android version?

    Beersmith mobile for android

I am on my tablet and for whatever reason, I can't enter any letters into the search box - keyboard just disappears after a second... Anyway, I'm wondering ii anyone has the new android version of Beersmith. I've read about it on the BS website and on the Google apstore but it's not clear to me...

    Best US Microbreweries

Maybe more! Here's a few of my favorites Ballast Point (I like the Linda Vista tasting room because the home brew shop is right there Coronado Brewing Company (there are tasting rooms now but I still like the original pub & restaurant on Orange Ave in Coronado) Helm's Brewing - much smaller but...

What came in the mail for you today?

Because sometimes life gets really busy, I haven't had a chance to brew since before Thanksgiving  However, I figured I'd try to inspire myself a bit and so I ordered a 3 liter beaker and a Stir Starter stir plate from William Brewing and it got here on Friday. Through some strange...

    Use a Griffin beaker?

I kicked off my starter for this weekend's brew and I started thinking about Christmas prizes I might ask for. Currently I have a one gallon clear glass "cookie jar" that I give the occasional shake to get a bit of extra oxygen in. I am thinking of asking for a real live stir plate but instead...

    That made my day!

I had a friend drop by a little while ago. He was bringing me two bombers of Stone Enjoy By 10-25-13 which are always a challenge to find before they are gone. He also brought along a bottle of Stone's Levitation which is one of his favorite craft beers. He brought it because he new I had a...
