Pressure canning wort – the science behind processing times?

Thanks, that's kind of what i was looking for. i was hoping that there was some calculation that was used, but i guess it's more of a try and test/measure thing that they must do in a lab. I wanted to use the 1/2 gallon jars for wort, but they (USDA) only recommend them for apple juice and...

Pressure canning wort – the science behind processing times?

I’m trying to figure out where the processing time and psi for canning wort comes from? The guidance on the internet is 15 or 20 min at 15 psi. Who came up with these numbers or what calculations did they use to figure it out? There must be some way how to determine if the guidance is safe or...

Anyone have any pictures of the Blichmann "Tower of Power"?

I "assume" the controller is similar to the Gas control for dummies thread https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f51/gas-temperature-control-dummies-116632/ which would mean it turns the burner on and off at the set point. If that is true, it would be awesome because I wanted to automate my direct fire...

SpanishCastleAle, I was writing my reply when you posted :) I'll try it around 25 psi next, but i guess i'll have to vent and degass the keg a bit first?

    Stout on Beergas foam problems

I set it at 30 psi because it is not CO2, but a Nitrogen/CO2 blend. it's really just used to push the beer at higher pressure through the restrictor plate in the faucet. The beergas does not disolve into the beer like regular CO2 does.

    Stout on Beergas foam problems

I have a problem with a dry stout on nitro. I get a full glass of foam. I was pretty sure I did this all right so maybe someone can point out what is wrong. Ok, here’s the run-down. Carbed the stout to around 1 vol co2, it’s been sitting in the fridge for 1 week around 7°C. 10 foot 3/16 lines...

    Fixing a corny questions

They make the plastic gas in diptube again that is designed for that keg. They were very hard to find so someone probably improvised and tried to build one. Austin homebrew has the gas in tube - http://www.austinhomebrew.com/product_info.php?cPath=178_40_271_560&products_id=12475

    Immersion Wort Chiller

i built mine top to bottom then out, there will be a temperature diff between the top and bottom of the pot unless you stir. I added a whirlpool tube to my IC, not for the whirlpool effect but to keep wort moving around the chiller so it cools evenly and doesn't require stirring or moving the...

Northern Brewers Whit beer, anyone brew this?

I brewed the kit before, all grain version. it was very good, however i would have cut the bitter orange peel addition in half. it stood out too much IMO.

Where do you buy your corneys?

It's not all that bad, the brew club here has enough group buying power that nobody really uses the lhbs (they kinda gave us no choice at those prices). it's only unfortunate if you need something and can't wait until the next group buy.

Where do you buy your corneys?

My lhbs sells them 90$... They are not cleaned and don't have the gaskets replaced. They still sell hops for $7.75/oz... 38 bucks isn't all that bad for a keg.

    E-kettle: How to install element?

So i looked at Bargan Fitting's site, the locknut is nps, while the coupler is npt. the element thread is nps right? to fit the element in the coupler do you just wrap it in teflon and screw it in until the threads lock? (because they are 2 differn't size threads - not because they fit...
