    Fruit Beer Purple Daze

I wonder if something has changed lately because the Purple Haze that is labeled as a lager, with pretty much the exact same recipe as Strawberry Harvest.

    strawberry harvest clone

Building up a recipe right now. Does anyone know what the final gravity or the original gravity of the actual Abita Strawberry Harvest beer? Really want to nail this one.

    strawberry harvest clone

Awesome, I can't wait to hear how it will be. I think your recipe sounds spot on. I've been listening to some of the Can You Brew It podcasts from the past few months where they talked about no recipe cloning and one of the things that I took away was that on a light beer like this where the...

    Plate Filtering Pictorial

Anyone try doing this from a carboy to a keg? Kegs are at a premium oftentimes at my house. I'd like to transfer from my carboys with a few PSI, through a filter into the serving keg. Thoughts?

    strawberry harvest clone

When I'm able to brew I will go AG with a full lager. I plan on filter the beer with a plate filter and juicing the strawberries with a juicer then adding the fresh juice to the beer. Right now I have three 6 packs of ASH left in my pantry and fridge so it will be a while before I brew. I want...

    strawberry harvest clone

No worries. I thought the filtration part was interesting. Filtering strips out the yeast that would be remaining suspended in the beer and would ensure that none of the sugars in the strawberry juice are fermented.

    strawberry harvest clone

I'm following this thread and am going to brew a clone as soon as possible. I thought I post what is on the back of the ASH bottle. They practically give you the recipe. Abita Strawberry Harvest is a lager brewed with pilsner and wheat malts and Vanguard hops. Real Louisiana strawberry juice is...

Using bottled water for all grain?

I use spring water that supposedly comes from Sierra Nevada springs. I'm practically half way there to Sierra Nevada pale ale.

Is batch sparge AKA english sparge?

Very easy, great idea too. Thanks for the tip.

Is batch sparge AKA english sparge?

I'm glad I'm not the only one totally confused with the way he explains it. If you do 3 running, what sort of water/grain ratios are you using for each lauter? What does your pre-boil wort volume usually come out to be?

Is batch sparge AKA english sparge?

Well, as I understand it, if you dump your full amount of sparge water into your MLT along with your strike water, aren't you essentially getting the same thing done, although I can definitely see where your efficiency might suffer. Adding the sparge water causes saccharification to stop, you...

Is batch sparge AKA english sparge?

In reading through "How to Brew" by John Palmer, he references three different types of sparge techniques. From Ch 17 I quote: "In the English method of sparging, the wort is completely drained from the grain bed before more water is added for a second mash and drained again. These worts are...

    Aquarium heater

Also, be aware that most of these heaters have notoriously inaccurate/faulty thermostats. It is not unheard of for their thermostats to be more that 10 degrees F off what you have them set at. Most aquarists who are serious about there temperature control will run separate controllers that...

    Aquarium heater

Just realize that most aquarium heaters are NOT rated to be fully submerged unless explicitly stated on the packaging. The stealth heaters referenced early are pretty widely used in the aquarium hobby because they are submersible and are made of plastic so will not shatter like many glass heaters.

    Perlick 425SS vs 525SS

Thanks for all the responses. Think I'll go with the less expensive model then.

    Perlick 425SS vs 525SS

Hi all, Going to purchase some new faucets and I have heard that Perlick is the way to go. Issue that I'm encountering is that besides price and a few minor design changes, what is the difference between the 425SS and the 525SS? Based on what I've seen on the supplier sites, the 525SS is the...
