    Looking for a Kettle

Yeah, the stove should be fine. It's run off a gas bottle like a propane burner would be. It can boil a large amount of water in a giant rice pot we have. Much more than I'd need for brewing. The problem is the rice pot is super wide and short (width is something like 2x the height) so it's not...

    Looking for a Kettle

Thanks for all the responses so far! this one from Amazon seems like it should work.

    Looking for a Kettle

I'm new to brewing. So far I'm just using our normal cooking pots. I've only done 1 gallon batches so far, but might go to 2.5 eventually. I don't plan to ever do a 5 gallon batch as I simply don't need that much. I'd rather brew more often in smaller batches. That said I just did my first 1...

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

I just brewed my 3rd batch (all one gallon each). The first 2 were extract. This was my first all grain attempt (a Wee Heavy) and it seemed to go well. But I need a bigger pot to make all grain easier.

    To Bottle Now or Wait?

Yeah, it's an Oktoberfest Ale recipe kit. So not quite the same.

    To Bottle Now or Wait?

Well I got tired of waiting so I bottled it and waited 2 more weeks. We had a friend over and opened the first ones yesterday. I'll have to say, it was pretty pleasing to drink a hefeweizen I made myself. Was it the best I've ever had? Maybe not. But it was genuinely good. At least on par with a...

BIAB batch #2: Green Tea Pale Ale

What size pot and bag are you using? I'm thinking about doing some small (1-2) gallon BIAB brews after my first couple extract brews are finishing.

    To Bottle Now or Wait?

Any recommendations for medium size plastic fermenters? If I get a plastic bucket or one of the plastic big mouth bubblers, is there any downside to getting one that is too big? I anticipate probably making mostly 1 gallon batches, maybe 2 gallon but probably not bigger. Does that mean a 5...

New Brewer in the Middle East

Thanks! I love the UP. It's one of the most beautiful places I've ever visited.

I'm open to plastic. Right now I'm sticking with small batches (currently a gallon). So glass shouldn't be as big an issue as with larger batches.

    To Bottle Now or Wait?

Tomorrow will be day 14 and I'm still waiting. I think the solution if I keep doing this is to get another carboy so I can do more than one batch at a time on a rotating schedule.

    To Bottle Now or Wait?

I might have put too many ice packs in. Cooler got into the mid-50s or maybe lower as I wasn't checking in it. Fermentation seems to have stopped as there is no noticeable activity now. This could be because it is finished (it was getting close already) or because I got it too cold. Any...

    To Bottle Now or Wait?

I was thinking about why I was in a hurry this morning. Other than being eager to try my first brew, the only factor I could think of was that I'm having to run the AC constantly to keep a proper temperature in the room I'm storing my fermenter in. Highs here have been consistently over 110F...

I'll probably get a hydrometer next time I travel. It's not a big deal to have. Alcohol is legal in this part of Iraq, but I don't know where you'd get brewing supplies here. Thanks for all the replies.

    To Bottle Now or Wait?

Thanks! I'll keep waiting then. If I'm still interested after the first couple of batches , I'll get a hydrometer (and probably another fermenter). I should have the opportunity in October/November.

    To Bottle Now or Wait?

What do you do if you don't have a hydrometer and live in a place where you can't easily get one?

    To Bottle Now or Wait?

I've got my first batch fermenting now. It's been in there 9 days at 62-66F. The airlock has slowed to bubbling about once every 2 minutes (1:50 last time I timed it.) I'm an impatient man, but willing to wait if needed. So, should I bottle it tonight, or keep waiting? If it makes a difference...

New Brewer in the Middle East

Good morning all! I'm new to the forum and new to brewing. I've got my first batch (a gallon of hefeweizen from a Craftabrew kit) finishing fermentation now and will probably bottle it in a few days. I made it with a friend here who is also new to brewing (although he's done wine in the past)...
