SS Brewtech 1BBL Unitank - BEWARE!!

I think they could solve the problem by going 1/2" instead of 3/8" for the coil. That would reduce pressure and allow for a greater volume. That's what cools it; volume, not pressure. Maybe SSBT should try that instead of talking to me like Officer Barbrady from South Park, "all is well...

SS Brewtech 1BBL Unitank - BEWARE!!

No. Well, let me say that I tried that from ambient to 42 degrees, but not once the tank reached 42 degrees. I'm willing to try that even if it may be messy. I have quick disconnects but I think they only connect one way.

SS Brewtech 1BBL Unitank - BEWARE!!

I thought about that. I also thought about the fact that the liquid would have to enter a "Y" at some point and I didn't know how great a restriction the two would form. I've also been a little hesitant since the OEM didn't mention it. Do you have that kind of setup? Trust me when I say...

SS Brewtech 1BBL Unitank - BEWARE!!

After speaking with both MoreBeer and SSB, they both agreed that the flow volume as reported from the pump would be fine (and if I'm not mistaken, SSB's glycol chiller is the same). I agreed to return the MoreBeer chiller and get the SSB chiller if they could guarantee me it would do better...

SS Brewtech 1BBL Unitank - BEWARE!!

Yes, I believe you are right, but I posted that in the OP. "I believe that I am fighting physics and that unless I have a larger coil, there cannot be enough glycol passing through to cool the liquid fast enough before it draws heat from the environment and wicks away." I will address the...

SS Brewtech 1BBL Unitank - BEWARE!!

EXACTLY. Knowing the humidity in Florida (or they could have at least asked), they should have warned me, but instead say no one else has these problems. Sorry but I cry BS...

SS Brewtech 1BBL Unitank - BEWARE!!

So I have tried on multiple forums to get any answer that would corroborate SS Brewtech's engineer. NOTHING. I have been homebrewing for almost 20 YEARS and never have I had such a BAD experience. Here's the setup. SS Brewtech 1BBL UNJACKETED Unitank with neoprene cover BrewBuilt™ IceMaster...

Thank you! Let me do the math on that and get back to you.

    Rice Lager

All these processed table sugars have by-products and it all depends on the brand that you choose. You will often hear homebrewers complaining of a cidery taste. You don't want any of these by-products in your beer so why not just choose pure corn sugar? I realize it's not quite as easy as...

Spices preventing my fermentation from starting?

I've done a number of spiced beers and I would highly recommend that you add the spices to the secondary. You're gonna lose a lot of the aromatics of the spices from the primary blow off. JMO

    Stirring with a RIMS?

I have a combination RIMS/HERMS system. Once I mix the grains with the water, I begin re-circulation. I have a pump that constantly moves the liquid for the entire mash, while maintaining the temperature through a coil in the HLT. I have found this works for me and I'm very satisfied with it...

    Rice Lager

You know, I don't believe that Bud uses actual rice. It's my understanding they use rice syrup. Also, I noted that someone said they use "refined sugar". You should never use refined sugar in brewing unless you want any "bonus flavors" that come with it. Refined sugar (table sugar) is a...

    Mash extract efficiency

Recently I brewed an ale yesterday and after 6.25g I was able to stop the runoff because I could just add water to get to my target SG (and target volume). However, my runoff from the MT was still reading 18 BRIX... That, to me, meant that there was still a lot of good wort available. I...

    help with dilution

How many gallons did you start with? How did you measure your gravity and at what temperature? I would be more concerned with the quality of the water lending off flavors or potential infection (low). I agree though, for the future, you should dilute prior to pitch.

What to do with old, unused grain

You can make spent grain bread! Good stuff. Just don't do that if you ever use rice hulls.... 🤮

    Hydrometer use/misuse?

If you are trying to take get a gravity reading based on your volume BEFORE boil, I would highly recommend using a refractometer. Much easier. Also, I agree with hotbeer. The temperature can drastically affect the reading. Find your manual for the hydrometer and ensure that the liquid...

    Fermenting in A 1BBL unitank

After multiple "experiments" and working with Brewbuilt and SS Brewtech, there has been little consensus. I agree with BrewBuilt (MoreBeer), that the flow rate is the primary issue. I also believe that an unjacketed unitank, here in Florida, is a very bad idea. Does anyone here use an...
