My Brewery is the BEST project I have ever embarked upon.

Ever since going with a Brutus 10 sort of setup earlier this year, my beers have been coming out very very well. I have done my black IPA recipe twice now and it has been consistent. Well today I had a couple of produced videos that I finally put together. My fermentation refridgerator is...

Quandry- do I go 7.5 Conical or 14.5?

I am not sure which to do...the Blichmann 7.5 or the 14.5 Fermenatior? I am not up to doing 10 gallon batches (yet but will in a year or two at the latest) and will have to get a MLT that will handle that amount of grain. But I can do 8 gallon batches if I needed to. So what should I do? I...

    First Brew with NEW HERMS

Well this past weekend I did my first brew with my HERMS- the first mash was as messed up as a football bat. Had all of the water good to go, holding temp, doughed in and POOF...the screen fals bottom came up and let a crap load of grain in...it was so bad that I had to dump it and reseat the...

Just to get an opinion...MASH TUN MADNESS!

Ok, so I have an Rubbermaid mash tun that has worked quite well in the past. However, since I have upgraded to a keggle for my brew kettle and HLT, there is a symytry (sp) that is lacking...so here is my question: Is going with a keggle MLT the way to go and if so, why? Would you do the...

    Wiring a heat element

For the life of me I cannot find the thread on how to wire a cord to a 1500 watt heating element. For a three prong cord what do I do with the ground wire? I know the other two go on either of the posts but how do I deal with the ground?

Fly Sparging and a 2 Pump System

I am still in the process of building my HERMS (UPS and US Postal is S L O W) and had a question out there for those with the experience... In my setup, I have a two tier stand with the HLT and the MLT on the same level. I have one pump already and will be using it to fly sparge (vis-a-vie...

Optimum Length for a HERMS coil

My HERMS project is slowly coming along and I am getting to the point to where I need to build the heat exchange coil. I am going to go with 1/2 inch copper tubing (everything else is 1/2 inch) but I am not sure as to how long it needs to be. Is there an optimum length for the HERMS coil?

    DYI HERMS- Heating Element question

I wanted to bounce off of you guys an idea I have for my HERMS... I currently live in a townhome apartment and do not have access to a 240V circuit. As such, my plan for my HERMS is to heat my HLT (converted Sanke keg) up with propane for my initial strike water then maintain with an...

    Brewery Redesign...yep, going HERMS

So I have started converting over to a HERMS rig for AGB...I am having a hard time noodling through what I want to do for the HLT. I have my mash tun set and ready (just added the Blichmann Autosparge) but cannot decide on what to do for the HLT. I have been looking at Pol's E-HLT design and...

Leffe Brune (brown)- Any close clones?

I am thinking my skill set is up to tackling a belgian beer at this point...and what better to cut my teeth on that my favorite- Leffe Brune. :rockin: My love affair with this beer goes back to April 2006 when my WWII re-enactment group hosted veterans from the 101st Airborne for a trip to...

$20 AC unit off of the Craigs

Got myself a $20 AC unit off of Craigslist today; ugly as sin, but it does the job. Since my kids are going to be gone for a month, I will be using their bathroom as a makeshift fermentation chamber. I am testing the temperature right now to see how cold I can get it in there. It doesnt drw...
