    Simple Malt Extract recipe

This could be an infection or poor rinsing after using bleach as a sanitizer. Maybe even from using chlorinated tap water in the beer and not boiling long enough to remove it. It could even be the yeast that was used. I have had fantastic luck whipping up quick beers with Premier Malt...

    Premier malt extract

I have whipped up 5 gal batches using 1 and 2 cans of PME and sugar plus some finishing hops and didn't like them at all. my buddies drank the stuff. My fave overall 5 gal batch so far was 3 cans PME boiled for 15 min with 1 oz northern brewer hops thrown in at 5 min to go. Mostly because it...

    Premier malt extract

that would be me and my stone arrogant bastard clone. it has mellowed some and is the clearest beer i have brewed to date. it is still a flavor MONSTER. big, malty, and hoppy, just not a bright/hoppy as when it was younger. and abv is about 7%. I am considering brewing another batch of that...

    Premier malt extract

i just picked up 3 cans to throw a quick beer into the fermentor. 2 are older and have a 'made in UK for' labels. the third one has a 'made in Canada' label with corn added to the ingredients list but still says 'all barley extract' underneath. interesting. I am going to use the yeast from...

    Strange Safbrew s-33 taste?

I'm pretty sure S-33 is a dry form of Edme, but I could be wrong. Maybe that's why you are experiencing similar tastes.

    Premier malt extract

sure. Other malted grains, like Crystal 120 or Carafa I or Black Patent Malt, will add flavors, aroma, and coloring to your beers. check out www.brew365.com for descriptions of several base and adjunct malts (and hops too). www.northernbrewer.com has some good descriptions of what different...

    Premier malt extract

I have tried stretching one can of PME plus sugars out to 5 gals and didn't like it at all. i suggest using at least 2 cans of PME and a corn syrup/honey combo like golden eagle or alaga yellow label. your mileage may vary though... ... i forgot to mention that my buddies and i drank it anyway.

    Premier malt extract

i poured about one half of a pint last night and WOW! is this stuff great! The bitterness I have experienced with previous batches of premier was not there or it was covered up by the sweetness from the 120L crystal and the spiciness of the Chinook hops. whatever the case, i did not have an...

    Premier malt extract

I kegged this stuff last night after about 3 weeks in the carboy. it is insanely bitter, but I was expecting that after the other batches of premier based beers were also initially too bitter to drink. The others mellowed to drinkable in 2 to 3 weeks, so I am excited to taste what I have...

    Premier malt extract

give it a month or so and see what happens. I made a 3.3(ish) gal batch of 2 cans of Premier and 1oz Mt Hood boiled for 5 min using wal-mart 'drinking' water and S-04 yeast. 2 weeks in the carboy, 2 weeks in the keg @ room temp, then gas and chill in the fridge. It took another month in the...

    Melanoidin Malt as Decoction Substitute?

what negatives should one expect if using more than 1/2 lb of Melanoidin malt in a 5 gal batch? say, for example, a robust porter (I'm thinking of brewing): 4.4 lbs pale liquid extract 3 lbs two-row 1 lb Melanoidin (instead of a crystal malt) 8 oz chocolate 4 oz black patent 1 oz Magnum @ 60...

    Premier malt extract

Anyone got any update info on their experiences with Premier? I brewed a 3.4 gal batch of 2 cans of Premier w .5 oz Mt Hood @ 15 min and .5 oz Mt Hood @ 2 min that I pitched onto an S-04 yeast cake and is now secondarying in a Corny. I plan on gassing the keg Sunday night and tasting Thursday...

    Premier malt extract

Pogo You can just pour the pellets into the boiling wort and transfer to the fermentor with no real ill effect, or strain through a sanitized strainer into your fermentor, or use muslin hop bags, or pour the pellets in and, when doen boiling, make a whirlpool of the wort, which causes all of...

    Premier malt extract

Pogo: Any chance you would be willing to share your recipes with the group? Dave: good to hear Golden Eagle has worked out for you. I have used it to boost an amber ale that's in the keg now and a red ale that is been bubbling along nicely in the fermentor for 4 days now. The crew I brew...

joetank: Where in/around Winchester did you find Premier? Also, you might consider using Golden Eagle Syrup instead of Karo. See www.goldeneaglesyrup.com for details. It is basically corn syrup, cane syrup, honey, and molasses. Canned in Fayette, AL by a family-owned company. I buy mine at...
