    I did a california common pale ale and it smelled like bread. Dont know what you could do to change his opinion about the smell.

    Siphoning with mouth?

    I use a turkey baster to siphon, just push the nose of the baster into to the end of the hose(with the ball already squeezed),then release the ball and the flow should start going through the tube and at that time quickly remove the baster from the tube and put the tube where you want the brew...

    Update! My fermenter temp has fallen to 66f and has held steady my most recent gravity test was at 1020.
