    Hop Alphas

    I have a recipe that I want to make. It calls for .5oz of hops with a 5% Alpha rating. The hops that I have are 3.8% Alphas. Can someone tell me how to make the conversion to add the proper amount of hops? I'm thinking dividing 3.8 by five and multiplying qty until I hit 5%, am I correct? Thanks

    Can someone explain bitterness ratio in simple terms? In doing a recipe, an ESB, Beersmith shows a bitterness ratio of .772%. I found my answer but I don't know how to delete this ?.

    Am I OK to go

    What does a 90min boil do?

    What does a 90min boil do that a 60min doesn't? I see some recipes that look to be almost identical in the grain bill but one calls for a 90min boil and one calls for a 60min boil. Both end up with 5.5 gals of wort.
