    Post your infection

Hi all- I brewed a brown ale last night and pitched a pack of Notty into it as soon as it cooled. 18 hrs later it’s got a nice krausen on it. The krausen is a nice even cream color, but it has a darker 2” brown spot as a part of it. It might be normal, but just looks strange. Thoughts?

Got a wine aerator for Christmas and a brew tool idea

My wife had been using a wine aerator for awhile now too. (That thing really works too!) I had a similar thought, but haven't gotten off my butt to try to build a bigger wort-sized version. It's gotta be just a big Venturi effect, pulling air in through the lateral holes as the wine flows...

Word of warning : Don't Leave Full CO2 Tanks in Hot Car!

Not to mention that a burst disk letting loose is damn near defeaning. When I was a firefighter, we had one let go on a 2200 psi SCBA tank. It was louder than hell, even from 50' away and around a corner! I'd hate to be riding in the car with one when it kicked off.

American Pale Ale Bee Cave Brewery Haus Pale Ale

Tried this as my first all-grain attempt and it came out pretty well! I brewed it up about 2-3 months ago and then had to let it sit in the bottles due to work. Cracked one open today and it was pretty good-even SWMBO liked it. However...it does have a little bitter aftertaste-maybe just a...

    Boiling on the grill?

Tried the grill as an experiment and it didn't work at all. SWMBO got me a propane turkey fryer burner for my birthday and it rocks! I don't think I've ever opened it up all the way and it boils 3 and 4 gallons (I do 2.5 gallon batches) with ease. (And it sounds bad-ass too when you do crank...

American Pale Ale Bee Cave Brewery Haus Pale Ale

Got a question for you guys- I brewed a 2.5 gallon batch about 10 days ago and pitched a rehydrated packet of Nottingham. I'm fermenting in a bucket, resting in a swamp cooler. (I usually get about 65-68 degrees F on the outside of the bucket with this.) In the past few days, I've been...

Irish Red Ale Quaffable Irish Red (Extract)

Just tasted this from my first attempt at the original extract recipe... Awesome!! This is the first homebrew I've made that was actually good and that I'd be willing to share with someone else. Hooray for good beer!

American Pale Ale Bee Cave Brewery Haus Pale Ale

Brewed this last night as my first attempt at all-grain brewing! I did a 2.5 gallon batch (converted everything with the Beer Recipator on-line) and mashed in a 5 gallon Rubbermaid round cooler with a SS braid loop. According to my math and Palmer's book, it looks like I hit right around 80%...

    Yeast in Airlock

Tuesday night I made a starter for a brew I'm planning for Friday night. I made a 1 pint starter and pitched about a 1/4 of a yeast cake from my last batch into it (WLP-400). (It was a 2.5 gallon batch, so smaller yeast cake-hence the starter. And I wanted to try yeast washing and making a...
