Update - No Chill British Pale - modified hop schedule

Gents, I tried the British Pale I made with the No Chill methods and modified hop schedule. It was a success. It’s in the Bass ale / Timothy Taylor family, mildly bitter, crushable like Bass, but more complex flavors from the Timothy Taylor (Wyeast 1469) yeast, like a hint of iced tea. That...

    Non-Lager Styles with Lutra Kveik

Fragged. My Lutra Pils was fast fermenting but not so fast to carb as some ales. It didn’t like carbing below 70. Added heat and then it carbed up fine. It is not as clear yet as commercial beers but it’s pretty clear tastes great right away as you noted.

    Incredibly Frustrated With Poor Efficiency

You can do as JD notes above. … that is a very accurate, extra detailed explaination. Is that what my friends hear when I go yeast deep or process deep? I use the Brewers Friend app, and also double checked with some online calculators. Basically the potential sugar from the weight of the...

    Incredibly Frustrated With Poor Efficiency

Your numbers seem good to me if your getting 5% predicted abv. I’d double grind my grains at the LHBS. Also try a batch sparge with another 2 gallons just to be safe. How did the prior batches taste after the ferment? I just did my first BIAB. Used Brewers Friend to calculate recipie, hops...

No Chill 3 hop schedule British Ale

Added wort to the fermenter. Gravity was1.051 then I topped off with a pint or so to bring the fermenter up to 5 gallons so we’ll say 1.050. I figure that puts my efficiency around 76-78ish. Wort tasted bitter enough but not overly bitter with decent flavor from the flame-out and 175 hops. I’d...

No Chill 3 hop schedule British Ale

Some brew day shot gents About 3.5-4 hours to set up, mash, boil, clean up. I’ll get faster with practice. Could shave time off with fewer beers but who wants to do that.

No Chill 3 hop schedule British Ale

BIAB / No Chill British Pale Brewday notes. Feel free to comment. No problem staying in the 151-153 mash with a sleeping bag insulation on top. Brew bag worked great but I see why guys rig pulleys - doable though. Batch sparged with 2 gal room temp water to make 7 to boil. That cooled the wort...

No Chill 3 hop schedule British Ale

Gents, I ran to my LBS today. I picked up 2lbs of Marris Otter to add to the 6 of Golden Promise. Also going with 1/2 lb of Dark Crystal 120L instead of 1/4 lb of 160L. I’ll back off the pound of corn sugar to 8oz per suggestions. No chill Hops at -20 min except that final charge. I think will...

No Chill 3 hop schedule British Ale

Gnome I am using a touch of Simpson’s Dark Crystal, sorry I was vague. I may just up the grains as you suggested. The recipe does call for 60 Fuggles then 45 EKG then 10 SG. I’m struggling most with that final addition in the no chill. I’ve read that low AA hops can get grassy when dry hopped...

No Chill 3 hop schedule British Ale

Using Pols no chill hop chart and Ratliff’s dry hop advice I’m getting closer. hops in hop sacks: 1.Bittering #1 -1 Oz Fuggles 60 min adj to 35-40 min. Remove at flameout. 2. Bittering #2 -1oz Kent Goldings 45 min adjust to 15-25. Remove at flameout. 3.Aroma -1 oz Styrian Goldings add at...

No Chill 3 hop schedule British Ale

Great advice Ratcliff. If I dry hop, I’ll add the dry hops 3-4 days prior to bottling to avoid grassiness. This beer does not call for dry hops of course, so I also thought about adding the last addition at 176 deg while cooling. In that case I’d perhaps add the 45 min addition at 5, 10 or...

    Non-Lager Styles with Lutra Kveik

That Pale sounds quite hoppy HotPepper. That wheat also sounds like a great Lutra beer MadKing. I’m more yeast nerdy but starting my hop nerd path recently. I’m still reading and building a Lutra no chill Dunkel or Vienna lager recipe. Seems pretty straightforward to adjust hop bitterness for no...

No Chill 3 hop schedule British Ale

Gents, I’ve watched and read plenty about no chill and want some feedback on my upcoming brew plans for a British Ordinary Bitter 4-4.5 abv. BIAB. No Chill. 3 hop additions. Adjusted hops to get 28-35 ibu using brewers friend. -7 lbs of Golden Promise -1 lb corn sugar or add 1 more base malt...

Embarrassingly Old Extract w/ Kveik. Why not

His expressions are hilarious. He wants to like it, but his face says “this sucks balls”. My favorite part is when he says “tastes like when you burp after eating breadsticks”.

Is Lutra Kveik Slower to Bottle Conditioning?

Gents, carbonation is doing much better after 2 weeks, including a few days on the seedling warming mat. I tried a sample on day 14 that I refrigerated at about day 12 and it’s much better. I think it will get a bit more carbed and clear. I’m happy with this beer and learned that Lutra does need...

Embarrassingly Old Extract w/ Kveik. Why not

Gents, it’s the end of the Embarrassingly Old Extract experiment. I sampled the uncarbed finished beer to see if bottling was warranted. Verdict was NOT to bottle. It did ferment and did have bitterness, but the malt character was gone. It was sort of bitter, ciderlike hooch. You could drink it...

Lutra Kviek Pseudo Lager - First Tasting

Guys I just tried the Lutra Kveik Pseudo Lager after a full 2 weeks of bottle conditioning. Much better carbing than after 1 week. Still not fully crispy carbed yet. I detect some sweetness at the finish, it’s still very young. I love young beers, even if not perfect yet. I expect it to get a...

Is Lutra Kveik Slower to Bottle Conditioning?

Gents, is Lutra Kveik slower to bottle carb than othef yeasts? Most of my bottled brews actually are drinkable after about a week, better in 2 weeks. I’ve bottled Ales, Browns, Kolsch and Hefe. I just tried my Lutra Kveik Pseudo Pils after about 5-6 days and it was not even close. I expected...
