A Fruited Cream Ale with Sunny D?! Sounds Crazy, but tastes DELICIOUS!

I know some of you out there are purists, and I respect that (I always was, too, but have been converted) but sometimes with home brew, you just have to play around! We wanted to make a nice, easy drinking Cream Ale with strawberries, with a little extra citrus pop - and Sunny D definitely...

    Fresh From The Yeast Vault!

Hey Everyone! I don't know about you, but I'm ALWAYS brewing something different. My recipe formulation process usually starts with the yeast I want to use and works backwards from there until I come up with whatever I'm making. So many killer strains, and so little time to brew with all of...

New Recipe Kit! Wild Fire Wheat Ale

Hey Everyone! We wanted to make something just a little bit out of the box this month, and thought that a clean American Wheat with just a hint of Briess Cherrywood Smoked Malt might be a delicious nod to the fact that it seems like our entire west coast is on fire this year. The smoked malt...

What will give me more bang for my buck?

My rule of thumb is covering the peels with about 2 oz. I leave the peels in the vodka or strain them out when I use it for cocktails. In a pint jar, it ends up being ~4 oz vodka per 2 oz peels.

What will give me more bang for my buck?

I've found that a blend of both heat extraction and ethanol extraction gives me the fullest spectrum of flavors with citrus peels and ingredients like that where you're trying to pull the oils into solution. I usually do the last 5 minutes of the boil as well as a soak in vodka. For me...

Frozen can of juice for flavor

Frozen concentrates work well! If you get a 2 gallon bucket, that makes the process much easier. If you're only in 1 gallon carboys, try throwing it in when you mix up your honey at the beginning. Just make sure that the concentrate doesn't have potassium sorbate in it. That will make...

More foam on second pour from keg

FWIW, we run longer lines of the Ultra Barrier Silver 3/16 line (10 footers) and keep our temps closer to 34° F. That seems to seal the deal for pouring perfect pints for us. We run those numbers on both the commercial and homebrew kegerators with great results. The line length helps a lot...

Anyone had a chance to play with the Cryo Pop Blend yet?

Nice! That's the first commercial beer I've seen with Cryo Pop! From what I'm getting through fermentation, seems like Mosaic and Citra would be a good balance to the heavy stonefruit aromas I'm smelling.

Anyone had a chance to play with the Cryo Pop Blend yet?

Haha, more WP hops is always a good thing! Tested mine yesterday and it's sitting at 1.004 and ready for the second charge of dry hops, so we shall see how much they actually Pop!

Dry hop on krauszen or wait for it to drop?

I just did some dry hopping directly on top of krausen (day 3) for some biotrans with the Cryo Pop blend. It's a little like 😳 at first, but because they're dry, they end up soaking through the krausen and absorbing the wort, which is what you want. Once they absorb some wort, they break up and...

Anyone had a chance to play with the Cryo Pop Blend yet?

Nice! Let me know how it comes out! Just did a basic pale yesterday, ~1.052. I did: 2.5 mL CO2 Hop Extract @ 60 1 oz CryoPop @180 F for 20 minutes I plan on doing 0.5 Dh @ day 3, then 0.5 oz DH @ Day 9. Fermenting with Kveiking because it's HOT! I'll post up results in soon!

Anyone had a chance to play with the Cryo Pop Blend yet?

Hey Everyone! Just brought in the new Cryo Pop Blend to see what it's all about, but haven't had a chance to brew our standard Golden Promise SMASH pale ale we always do to play with the profile. Has anybody played with these yet? Any feedback so far?

    Agave (plant) and syrup wine

Yeah, Agave is a hard one. All the nutrients and the turbo must have kicked it off. Fermentation tends to produce a ton of acidity and furfural, which makes the solution pretty rough on the yeast. As far as getting it to clear up, start with a crash chill. Put it in the fridge and get it down...
