    I've noticed a few beers (besides barleywines) that have a very high alcohol by volume. One such beer is a Dogfish Head beer called Worldwide Stout, which is around 18% ABV. For beers like this, are they all brewed at some point with wine yeast to allow the alcohol content to be so high, or...

    If you've fashioned your own keggle, what did you use to cut the top out? I was able to acquire a large keg yesterday, and am looking into my options for getting the top off of there.

    How do you monitor your gravity

    Thank you...I really like the site. I definitely plan on becoming a supporter. So, as a general rule, stay away from Muntons yeast? I bought some new yeast for future batches yesterday. I got a smack pack of Wyeast, and a couple of Danstar packs....

    Made my first batch a few weeks ago, was a Pale Ale. The initial gravity was around 1.042. After about 10 days or so of fermentation I transferred to a glass carboy and the gravity was only around 1.020...needless to say, the beer wasn't very strong (although it tasted great).
