    Astrophotography - The Rosette Nebula

Here's another astro photo I just finished. This is the galaxy M101 (Pinwheel Galaxy). It is located in the constellation Ursa Major about 21 million light years from Earth. At 170000 light years in diameter, the Pinwheel Galaxy is almost twice the size of our Milky Way galaxy. It took me 14...

    Astrophotography - The Rosette Nebula

Actually, there is a ton of Ha in most nebula images, it's the most prevalent gas. That false color image is mapped as what is called the 'Hubble Palette' as that is how most Hubble pics are color mapped, also called SHO mapping. The S2 emission is mapped to the Red channel, the Ha is mapped to...

    Astrophotography - The Rosette Nebula

Actually, it means that I did not process the image in false color mapping such as the 'Hubble Pallette', but I did process the image as true color RGB (Red/Green/Blue) with a little Ha (Hydrogen Alpha) to boost the detail in the luminance channel. My astro camera is a mono (black and white)...

    Astrophotography - The Rosette Nebula

I got my telescope out again... My previous furthest image was ~9000 light years away. This time, I reached WAY out to 25 million light years away... And this isn't one of my typical nebula images it's a galaxy image. This is M51 also known as the Whirlpool Galaxy. This was very hard to image...

    Astrophotography - The Rosette Nebula

It has been a while - how about IC1396, The Elephants Trunk - it is about 2400 light years from Earth. This is a total of 18 hours of 3-minute exposures through 3 different narrow band filters, then combined into the single image.

    Height Needed for BIAB Hoist?

Your ladder should work, my Werner 8' ladder worked until I got a hoist installed in the ceiling.

    What are you drinking now?

Right now, I'm drinking a home brewed Helles.

    What are you drinking now?

I really like Kölsch, and that's a nice looking Kölsch - good job!

    Tempature calibration

I'm another Thermoworks Thermapen user. I use Thermowoks products for all things temperature related in my house.

How long does it take to keg

    Yep - same here.

ABV % Confusion of the highest order!

Personally, I use the alternate method for all of my brews. The simple method is easy to remember and easy on the math, but as already stated it starts to deviate from actual ABV as the alcohol level increases. The alternate method is more difficult math to remember, but imo, it's the more...

    When to measure OG?

I brew using the BIAB method. I use a refractometer for measuring gravity at the end of the mash cycle to get my pre-boil gravity. I also use the refractometer near the end of the boil to dial in my post-boil volume and gravity. Then I switch to a Tilt Hydrometer to capture hourly gravity and...

Does this look like a suitable grain mill?

Nice score at a great price! I BIAB and I currently have the rollers on my Hullwrecker set to .028" but I'm thinking of closing mine down to .025" - that will handle almost any variety of grain that I mill without having to re-adjust the rollers.

    How do you buy grain?

I have my recipes pretty well nailed down for what I brew. I buy what grain I need for two 5-gallon batches (from Great Fermentations, no tax and free shipping). I only brew a pair of batches 5 or 6 times a year, and I don't want bulk grains sitting around.

Who else uses 34/70 on the regular?

When I use my 45/70 on Schwarzbier, the bullet really ruins the whole batch. 😁 But I use 34/70 always when I make Schwarzbier, in fact I have a batch of Schwarzbier going right now and it's coming along nicely!

Who else uses 34/70 on the regular?

Another W34/70 user here. I mostly brew German style lagers. Here in the middle of Arizona I can't get liquid yeast during the summer (no LHBS), because it doesn't survive the heat while sitting on my outside porch waiting for me to pick it up - so I exclusively use 34/70. However, I also don't...

    Who's smoking meat this weekend?

Didn't smoke meat - but I just smoked a rack of ATB's (Atomic Buffalo Turds). :p

    Astrophotography - The Rosette Nebula

OK - glad you all like the images! :) Here's another one of my images. IC1871 it's part of the Soul Nebula and is located about 7500 light years from Earth. This image took about 30 hours of individual 5 minute exposures through 3 different wavelength filters.
