    Hop schedule

lol at first I thought this was a riddle... since 60 min boils are pretty standard, 30 mins left or 30 mins to go is like asking glass half full or half empty? But yeah the hop addition "times" confused me at first too.

    Diacetyl Buttery Taste after Bottling

Hey Guys, just wanted to follow up... Cracked a bottle after 2 weeks and most of the diacetyl was gone. Cracked a bottle today, at 3 weeks, and it tastes awesome! Getting big hop flavors and can't really detect any buttery taste. Probably the cleanest tasting brew I've made so far. It's my...

    Diacetyl Buttery Taste after Bottling

Thanks again for all the input and advice guys. So far one of the hardest skills to master with homebrewing has been patience LOL

    Diacetyl Buttery Taste after Bottling

Ah I see, thanks for the great info guys! Going to warm up the bottles a bit and I tipped each bottle over back and forth to get the yeast roused up a bit. Just for future reference, is there anything I did wrong to increase the diacetyl in my beer? This is the first time I've fermented at 62F...

    Diacetyl Buttery Taste after Bottling

Hi All, I'm a fairly new homebrewer. I've done about 10 batches so far (9 extracts) and this is my first AG via BIAB. It's a single malt, single hop IPA that I fermented with WLP001 for 16 days at 60-62F. Before bottling, I took the FG and sampled the beer and it tasted fine. But after about 6...

Getting Wort down to 60F degrees with Immersion Chiller

Yeah I'll let the more experienced homebrewers chime in too, but for me I've read that pitching on the higher end of the fermentation range and then dropping it down to 65 right away can cause some yeast to flocculate and drop out early. Also, my last brew came out a bit estery so I've been...

Getting Wort down to 60F degrees with Immersion Chiller

This is awesome! I'm going to buy one of those pumps and give this a try next time. I had no idea you could hook up the immersion chiller directly to the pump instead of the hose faucet. Thanks everyone for the input!

Getting Wort down to 60F degrees with Immersion Chiller

Ah okay, thanks so much for the input! That's a great question, I will check my ground water temperature from my hose first and foremost. I'm in Northern California so our summers get warm, but nothing extreme. With winter around the corner I feel like the water will be a lot cooler. Last time I...

Getting Wort down to 60F degrees with Immersion Chiller

I apologize for the long post. My main question is will leaving the immersion cooler in for 30+ minutes get the wort down to the 60F's eventually? It's a Silver Serpent 25' IC. See full post for more info: I've been brewing for about 5 months now using extract kits. I recently invested in a...

Hop pellets making their way in to the fermenter?

Yeah I agree with everyone else that extra hop residue in the fermenter doesn't affect the beer much. However, I still try to filter out as much as I can after the boil just because it makes it easier when transferring to my bottling bucket. I also use a fermenter with a spigot and less hop...
