I use a 6.5 gallon glass carboy and a blowoff tube for primary, because yes, I've had it go that high! Plus with glass carboys, you can watch it ferment, unlike buckets.
That's not a bad idea to just rack half the beer, then take the reading, then add the sugar and the rest of the beer. I think it would mix just fine doing it that way?
Is there any formula or any way to figure out what the FG would have been even after I measured it with the priming sugar...
What kind of reading would you get if you measured the FG after adding the priming surgar vs. measuring it before the sugar?

I just started brewing an Irish Stout extract from Midwest. The directions call for adding 1/2 oz of Nugget hops for 60 minutes, but they gave me 1 oz of Nugget. Also have 1 oz of Willamette for aroma.
